Well hello all. I thought I would introduce myself and what I'm up to.

I just registered for this site as I just recently purchased my first BMW as my next project. I moved from Wisconsin to England in July and upon moving here got my next project.

Well I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Its was a 1987 BMW R80RT that the previous owner thought would look great as a welded together attempt at a chopper that is a complete disgusting mess.

Slowly working on it when money is available. Hoping to have it on the road in a year or two time.

how about a nice xs650 tank ,with locking cap ,look nice on there .
i might know some one whos got one :augie.

I picked up the current tank (1960's Norton Dominator) that's on it from Shepton Mallet for £10, I think I'm gonna modify it to fit nicely and use it. Thanks though :)

This bike is definitely a frankenbike. Triumph/kawasaki/BMW front end, norton tank, R100GS wheels soon to be modified to fit a RT...

You moved over the pond to........................Swindon !!

I came over for a 3 month Holiday a year ago and the above child was the accidental result. Thus got married and moved here to support new family.

Got made redundant a couple of weeks ago with Honda's 1200 person house cleaning, so the bike's gonna sit for a bit while I find a new job.

oh my god ,your the guy ,who moved from the land of plenty ,to the land of not a lot.
sorry about the job,but youll get all the info and help you need on here .
if you need any stainless tube, for your project ,drop me a line ...dave

Great post
Bit of work there pal
Good luck and only one question
Have you worked for Orange County Choppers and are you setting up a sattalite workshop in downtown Swindon
best of luck and keep the pictures coming cos they are fabulous
Love yer kid = just like his dad :clap

great project - good luck with everything - project, work, life - not necessarily in that order :-)

What was the front end off and were the tripple clamps a straight fit? Bearings can usually be found with the right OD/ID but the length between the clamps is often an issue if there is a mismatch on the headstock

cheers

First off thanks.

Secondly front end is Kawasaki forks and Calipers, Triumph yokes with the stem shortened and modified, allballsracing bearings, and fat bars.

The front wheel is believed to be a R100GS with currently R80 twin discs however the discs aren't large enough to contact the brake pads. I need to find 320mm discs and make them fit onto the wheel.

I have a long way to go even with the front end.

So far I have less than £700 in everything and still trying to keep it as cheap as possible.

Wow cool project & I like what you did with your last bike.

You're a brave man to post a build thread like that on this site - I'm sure there are a few purists that are muttering into their ales too scared to peek in & see what's happening:D

I'd be bloody interested to see how you are going to fix the replacement rotor.

What he said! Welcome to the site and the UK. Look forward to seeing the project progress. I hope you brought some waterproof riding gear with you! :D
