Slick 50 gearbox additive

I've done a search on SLICK 50, but not that much info on the forum.
Has anyone used SLICK 50 gearbox additive yet ? and any thoughts on not using it, etc.
Also, is CASTROL SMX-S synthetic 75W-85 API GL3/4 suitable for the gearbox/final drive ? Is it fully synthetic ?. I looked on the CASTROL website for info and had no luck.

Just read the link. I missed it when I first looked at the thread. MMMM.
It doesn't mention the gearbox additive, which is sold alongside the oil additive. The bottom line is, will it make my 57k gearbox slicker. I'm thinking of playing it safe and sticking to semi-synth Castrol and no slick 50.

As an engineer, I would not put ANYTHING with suspended solids (e.g. Slick 50) into an engine or 'box as lubrication. What happens when the solids decide that they have an affinity for each other? Lumps forming? Cue blocked oilways and shortage of lube to vital parts; or 20-micron clearance fits reduced to minus 5-micron interference fits and seizure.

Don't do it......

At the risk of putting my head on the chopping block, the crap you are thinking about putting in your transmission is for old knackered dogs.

The process that you will start coats the gears and bearings with a chemical layer that will force the gears apart and increase the wear rate and load upon the bearings.

The 'trade' don't do it and neither should you.

Good quality oil is all your gearbox and final drive need!

Mobil 1 Gearbox Oil

Got mine from Jeff Hall Motorcycles in Sheffield £11.25 / Ltr but you only need 1 ltr for the gearbox and 350 ml for the final drive.
the gearbox is noticably smoother, no clunks into 1st and just a light touch to change.

It just will not wear with Mobil 1 in it but it has to have been run in first 12,000 miles.

Thanks for all the replies. After reading the links, I am NOT putting any slick 50 in the engine or gearbox. The bike has done 57k miles now, so I'm going to put some fully synth in the gearbox and shaft over Christmas.

Or next time you're on a booze cruise, forget that last case of beer in the hypermarket and wander round to the car section, Mobil 1 is about half the price it is here!!


(doesn't half give you a sore head in the morning though! )
