Slick 50

Does anyone use this stuff? if so, is it any good and what benefits are there?

Used it in me Car and it has 121,000 on it now and doesn't use any oil still, starts easier too.

Have used it in previous bikes but never got to that sort of mileage so can't tell if if it did any good, made the clutch slip in a wet clutch Honda though........shouldn't be a problem for the GS though.

I have used it in previous bikes but I seem to recall that both the handbook and my dealer advise against it's use on the GS
If someone proves me wrong then I may also give it a go

Do a search on Slick 50 or oil additives and you will find some surprising answers - like Slick 50 and other Teflon-based additives are positively dangerous for your engine, to the extent that 3M (the manufacturers) will not endorse their product in oil-additives any longer. DON'T DO IT!!

In the dim and distant past, when I was riding a Harley, I went to a Harley tech day where a couple of their development technicians (must be the easiest job in the world) where doing a questions and answers session. Some poor chap stood up and said that he had put slick 50 in his new Tour Glide "Was it a problem?" The tech told him that slick 50 would certainly kill his engine, apparently, if your engine has ball or roller bearings fitted it causes the bearings to skid instead of rolling which kills the bearings in no time at all. Slick 50 was developed for car engines which are usually completely plain bearing.

My only experience with Slick 50 was when I used it on a middle-aged Volvo I'd bought as a commuter car (note to self - stop getting over-defensive). The piston rings failed about 30 miles later; the breather was full of black flakes, reckoned to be carbon deposits removed by the additive. It might've been a coincidence, but I've never used it since...

Used the 2-stroke version on my 1977 GT750 a while back. apart from the fact I have (touch wood) 70000 miles on the same bore and crank since I used it may be the Slick 50. Not noticed any other of the claimed benefits.

Same goes for Splitfire plugs....... never saw any benefits.....

A Tiger 900 riding friend at least had the courtesy to ring up all his mates and get their approval before he bought a Volvo - and his was a T5R!

Bought a Dolly Sprint once, the previous had used this stuff for years , when i took the sump bolt out nought came out so I dropped the sump, it was half full of grey graphite thick shit.
Took the rocker cover off and you could peel the shite off the rockers.

don't do it, the branded oils these days are more than capable of fulfiling the requirements.

funny I had a Volvo 244 for 3 days aswell, which was 2 days longer than that Dolly Sprint !!
