I have a flowjet and can recommend it to solve buffeting but the wind will cause you neck to hurt over longer stints. It's not much different from having no screen.

I have neither of those issues now :bounce1

i to found the original screen to be pants and have tried many differentn screens/ winglets combos and have found that the one that works for me is the wunderlich ergo screen and NN winglets,

as above, i dont think your ever going to get the non buffeting nervana you get on sports bikes due to being sat upright and in the wind blast, but my set up works for me, make 90-100mph cruising easy for about 2 hours and then my bum goes numbe and need a fill up anyway!

hope this helps,

jon

+1 for me, fitted the winglets last weekend and it makes a huge difference with the ergo screen

At 5'11" I have no problems with the adventure screen. I have it tilted fairly low, not bolt upright as some do. See how you get on with your test ride before parting with any cash - however the ADV setup is loads better than the standard screen for me.

I've got a high & wide screen that came from NN's on my 07 GS, which was a great improvement from the original screen, the problem I have found with it, although it reduced the buffeting considerably around my helmet (system 5), I get quite a bit of buffeting around my shoulders, also it has now started to craze, so I have decided to make a change and from the above posts I think I shall go for the MRA Vario 500mm as I'm 6ft. Has anyone fitted this screen and winglets as well, if so with what results?

try before you buy ...

I thought I had bought in to the whole `long way round` thing - didnt realise I would have to spend out lots of money trying to get the bike to cope with dual carriageways!!!!

I suggest that "try before you buy" is the only way to go here. I tried Givi screen, Adventure screen, tobinators, Touratech screen extension and a small jet-screen (can't remember name) before I settled on the MRA Vario (little one not the big one). Your size, helmet type, cruising speed, etc, etc all play a part, so what works for others may not work for you. IMHO, the Adventure screen was worse than the standard one - more buffeting.

Only downside of the MRA for me was a slight increase in noise - problem solved when I bought a new helmet. I was able to cruise very comfortably at speeds over the legal limit - no head shake.

Hey Guys,
Many thanks for all the suggestions....:beerjug:.I cant wait till weekend for test ride on adventure - so Ive gone ahead and Ive just ordered a MRA Vario Maxi from HPS who have very kindly offered to let me return it if Im not happy. Only £125 too in a grey/smoke finish.

Will let you know how I get on.

HI Guys, I posted this last night in the newbie post section - one of guys recomend I post it here too for some more helpful advice! Many thanks in advance.....

Ive just made the jump from a sportsbike - Ive owned the following over the last 7 years - SV650S/YZF600R/GSXR1000 and Ive done a fair bit of `sports touring`on all of them. So having had the gixer for 2 years I thought I`ll try something a bit different and get the GS after everyone raves about em so bought a 54 plate R1200GS. So far after 600 miles I Love the riding position, physical size (Im 6`2 and 16stone) and (after recalibrating my brain) the handling and sure footedness, also the ABS to cope with the mud covered fenland roads.

Now the only thing spoiling my enjoyment so far - and its quite a biggy - is My neck is taking such a beating from windblast/buffeting Im seriously considering going back to a sports bike. I know this had been discussed to death on here but I ask for some opinions. At the moment Im being put off riding more than my 25mile commute! Ive never had any bike put me off riding before! I thought I had bought in to the whole `long way round` thing - didnt realise I would have to spend out lots of money trying to get the bike to cope with dual carriageways!!!!

If I convert it to an adventure screen c/w winglets will I notice 350 quids (price Balderstones quote on ebay) worth of difference? I dont mind spending the money (if rather begrudgingly!) if the probs go away! I NEED this bike to cruise at 85-90 comfortably and for a 1200 bike thats not much to ask in my opinion! However if the adventure screen is so good why do the adventure boys look to change?
I dont like the look of massive screens or the Vario type to be honest and I really dont want to take the screen off as Ive also had a XT600X and that was awfull over 75mph.
I really want to resolve this problem as I like other aspects of the machine but if I cant sort it then there will be a low mileage R1200GS for sale in cambridgeshire soon!!!
I had a GSA for 2 years, and would have been quite happy with standrad Adv screen, untill I was told about the clip on deflector that Touratech do. Having used this I can honestly say It takes all the wind off my head and helmet, to extent that visor can steam up. It works. I have now got a gs 1200 and had a new Adv screen with winglets added. Cost a fortune, but again with Touratech addition that I kept its very calm. I do wear plugs. Its worth searching after market screen options for the gs 1200 and I have seen several around, and found some on the internet that look effective and cost less.

keep trying

I got a 05 1200,

I have had it from new and when I first got it I tried a nippy normans tall screen,a givi screen but in the end went for a touratech clip on extention from nippys and it does the job great,I ride all year round in an open face.

I drilled my orginal screen and bolted the extention direct to it in the end.:thumb2

Keep plugging away and you will find an answer.

tell em

An Adventure is no better.

I'm 6'1" and never got smooth air on my 06 12GSA.

With screen on highest setting I got nasty buffeting and preferred screen on low setting which directed wind to my shoulders/head but was more comfortable as it kept pressure off lower back which u get when less airflow hits you.

But best of all was changing to DesiertoIII screen.

Much smoother air as far more aerodynamic.

Go on Arsey tell em all how much they are, £500 if my memory serves me correct

How do you see through the bottom part of the screen ?

Isn't that a tad risky ?

GSJIM - I'm 6'1 and can never understand these guys who say they have no trouble with wind and buffeting! However, I have a GSA with winglets, and if you believe everything everyone else says that makes a difference!:rob

However, I legged it down to Touratech a few weeks ago and they happily lent me one of their screen extensions to go out and try. I was amazed by the difference it made. There I was thinking I needed to find a bit of dual carriageway to get up speed and within about 300 yds of leaving Touratech the difference was so noticeabe. When I did find a bit of dual carriageway I wound it up to 70 thinking this is great! I then decided to release the screen extension with my left hand and as I removed it I could feel the full force of the wind and get a truely full understanding of the difference it made.:thumb

Absolutely cracking! Only wish I'd done it ages ago!:blast

it might sound like a daft suggestion, but have you tried a low seat?

I don't know if the low seat would be too low and just make the bike uncomfortable otherways, but I've got both and find the low seat really makes me feel like I'm sitting in the bike rather than perched high up on it... it might mean your head is low enough for the screen to be effective???

just a thought.

I believe Mr Matchless is selling a Givi screen on this site for £60 (It's on the thread entitled 'sargent seat's for 1200gs'). I think it's about the same size as a GSA screen but a lot cheaper!

Buy it, try it and if it's not for you, sell it again either on here or ebay.
Probably wouldn't cost you much overall and may save you a fortune.

Mike

Try the simple free fixes first. Rotate the 'bars towards you and alter the height of the seat. I suffer with a bad back but with trial and error I've got things perfect.I often do 9/10 hours at a time on the bike,no problem. An MRA Vario screen ,£86 delivered from www.motorworks.co.uk helps too.

Hi guys,

The reason I put my original post on here was that after hours searching :typewithin the forum this topic of debate there seems no `right or wrong` solution as, after all we are all different shapes and sizes! From my deductions it seems that there are 2 (which have recieved no contradictory remarks....so far!) solutions.

1 MRA Vario screen (125 quid - I have ordered one on a sale or return basis)

2 Adventure screen c/w Touratech screen extender (350 + 120)

If No 1 is no good then I will go for for No 2 - I just might have to go without food for a while and turn the heating off at home to fund it! :thumb

Try Givi screen, around 80Euros. It is much bigger than GS screen and biger than ADV screen, and as we are of same size it will fit you nicely. I have also fitted winglets and they are great for witd bufeting.

I'm 6' and altered the std screen angle with a second hand set of tobinators (£20) from the forum and did it for me.
There was a bit of trial and error one afternoon, in getting the screen just right and I'm very pleased with end result for all types of speeds.
