I'm sure this must have been covered before, but I've searched in vain, so...

Any recommendations for slim pannier for just a laptop & a few papers? I (regrettably) use my 1200 mainly for commuting... don't like the topbox, but full GS panniers are a bit OTT. I seem to remember seeing 650 ally panniers that look a but like a briefcase... any good? - has anyone tried these on a 1200? Any other thoughts for slim/small panniers?

Cheers,
Paul

Thanks - looks good. Really I was after a tough pannier I could leave the work stuff in while I popped into the shops or went to gymn etc.. but the kriega stuff looks good.

Cheers

FWIW, I took your advice and bought one! I've never been a fan of rucksacks on bikes, but for small amounts of lightweight stuff it's great. Well made, comfy and easy to put on/take off. Thanks for the pointer! :thumb2 :beerjug:

No prob - I was the same, but these are nice bits of kit. In fact I was so impressed I bought the hydration pac too - used it on the BMW Level 1, and it was excellent. PLus you can take out the bladder and put it either the Rallye Pro or the 20l rucksack:)

another vote for the Kriega packs - thanks very much for the pointer. i have the same requirements - a laptop, shoes and a few papers everyday. i have the boxes but don't want to have them fitted all the time..

i got the slightly bigger one but also the 20l seat-bag thing they do - has a roll top and looks very waterproof indeed - like the way it all clips together too.

looks like a parachute! :) v comfy when riding though.

ta!

found this thread whilst searching for some info...
I ride a 650GS with a topbox, I use the bike most days for work but now I need to transport a laptop with me, along wit a change of cloths & my sandwhiches!

My laptop is a widescreen version and has its own carry case which I have had on my sholder on the bike which is far from ideal! & it doesnt fit in the topbox.

Do you guys put the laptop in these rucksacks in another carry case or on its own?
ideally I'd like a bag big enough to replace the top box but ive never been keen on the restriction of movement rucksacks have caused in the past.
are there any stockist where I can measure up?

i carry a 15" mac book in a kriega protective sleeve (very good for your laptop plus some papers and bits and pieces) inside a Kriega R25. I found the R20 a bit small. I then carry my shirt and stuff in an Eagle Creek Folder 15 as well. Finally a small lifeventure travel wallet secures all my sundry crap (phone , wallet etc). A small kriega cube on the straps of the rucksack so my wallet and keys are handy completes the picture. I have arrived at this set up after a great deal of experimentation and it works very well. Waterproof, not too heavy, comfy and not too big if you need to take it into an appointment. My full set of system panniers never get used!Hope that helps

This thread is very opportune for me as I am in the process of purchasing a laptop.

I felt that it would be better to carry it in a back pack as the vibaration in the back box or pannier would be too much.

As a result of reading your very interesting comments I found this Seal Line waterproof bag for laptops. http://www.aerostich.com/product.php?productid=19553&cat=471&page=1.

I would feel safer with my laptop in one of these and put it in a Kreiga back pack.

Kriega do a waterproof bag as well and I think it is a fair bit cheaper. However in practice with the laptop in the kriega laptop bag inside the kriega rucksack you would have to be in monsoon conditions for any water to get in. I carry a bin bag in the bottom of my rucksack for huge downpours but I've never needed it.

I stick my laptop (15") in a padded laptop bag, that also has compartments for paperwork, mouse, small hard drives, water, food, chewing gum etc. This then slots nicely into a waterproof 25l rucsack I found for sale at the recent outdoors show got it at a bargain £12.50 http://www.over-board.co.uk/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=30_28&products_id=39 being an outdoor type I can also use this bag on my kayak, for scuba gear etc etc. This bag also takes my shoes and even some sports gear. The bag cinches down by using side straps. The material is like cordura with a waterproof membrane integrated and I reckon it will stand up to alot of motorbike abuse. The red one even matches the colour scheme of the bike! I've removed the pillion seat (not strictly necessary) on the GSA and just bungee net the bag to the pillion, very neat.

I spent ages looking for a waterproof bag just for this job. :thumb
