Slime tyre pump cuts out

Hi.

Have a r1200 gs (08).

Bought a Slime tyre pump to carry on upcoming tour of Scotland.

Problem is that when pump powered from bikes power outlet it cuts out when attached to bikes tyre.
From any other power source it works fine!?

Ideas??

Probably the canbus shutting down. It's meant to do that so I suggest you leave the ignition switched on or bike running whilst pumping.
 
The can bus, if I remember correctly, cuts out the power to the socket if it draws more than 5 amps. I think you'll find the pump draws well over this current in operation, IMHO leaving the bike running won't make any difference. I got round the problem by fitting an additional socket fed and fused direct from the battery.

Tried my Slime pump on a friends K1300S yesterday and even with engine running it still tripped the accessory socket. I have mine wired direct to the battery by a fuseblock so no such issues.
 
Your pump should have come with crocodile clips. Forget any auxiliary sockets, clip it straight on to the bikes battery. :thumb.
 
I thought the socket on later ones would handle a bit more than 5A. Am considering one of these.
 
I've got a waterproof connection lead for an Optimate 4 connect to the battery of my 1150GS. If I buy a 12v socket that plugs into that, will a Slime pump run okay without cutting out?

Yes, that is exactly how I have mine set up. The male socket you require is available from Maplins for about £2.00

I would have my doubts that the cable can handle 7A.

Easiest way is just to rewire the accessory socket direct to the battery with an inline fuse.

Edit: As this is the 1200 section, I thought we were talking 1200s. Your post appears to refer to an 1150 which has no CanBus and could therefore just use the accessory socket.
 
Thanks chaps. My Slime pump arrived. There's a power lead with it that I can connect straight to the battery terminals. It's not very long but I can leave tucked under the seat then connect it to the pump via the longer connector lead also supplied if I ever need to use it.
 
Well I'm hoping the power lead that came with the pump will handle 7A because it's now connect up to the battery!:eek:
