Gents,

Not sure where to go next.

I took my 2002 1150GS to SLM, who diagnosed an oil leak from the gearbox oil seal. 'Mike' stated he would contact BMW to see if they would contribute towards the repair cost, as the fault was major, and by bike is low miles, immaculate with full BMW service history.

That was 2 weeks ago now, and despite sevaral follow up calls from me, and several broken promises from SLM, they have consistantly failed to get back to me. Indeed, my last call to Mike seemed to cause him some irritation.

My question is,

Am I being fobbed off and am I wasting my time waiting for a result about wether BMW will contribute towards the repair?

I appreciate that the bike is well out of warranty, but I am extremely pissed off at the prospect of such a major repair bill on such a new bike.

IIWY I'd PM St.Eptoe....he'll be able to do the job far far cheaper and short of waiting around until you can get the claim passed upwards through BWM to be assessed for a 'good will' claim, it's be the best way of getting back on the road.

I bought a K1200GT from SLM a couple of years ago and have nothing but praise for them. Not only did I get a discount, £9,600 instead of £12,400, on a new bike, they also gave me a good part ex on my R1150RT.
I have not tried their workshop facilities though.

Wow!!

They found someone who'd take that old shed off their hands, then???

If I remember correctly BMW dramatically dropped the price of the K1200GT at about that time to clear remaining stocks. The list price was around £10,300 for several months. Very tempting to trade my 1100RT at the time, but I'm pleased that I held out for a 1200 Boxer.

I'm very happy with SLM - see post below about Servicing and Loan Bikes. Got my Dakar back on a Monday and was back there buying a R1200GS on the Tuesday for delivery on last Saturday. Price was good as it was an 06 model they had in stock. Got a fair trade in on my Dakar, but they will make a nice tidy profit if they sell it at the price it is on their website at!

Very happy with them! :thumb

I sympathise, but 'new to you' is not the same as 'new'. You can't really expect either SLM or BMW to give you a free repair on a 4 year old bike. If they do, it's a real result. If they don't, you shouldn't be disappointed.

None of the back slapping for SLM helps David Price. If 'Mike' has said he'll see if BMW will help with repairs then chase him until he gives you an answer either way. If he says they won't stump up then I think Fanum has the best advice.

I would be disappointed.I kept my last jap bike 10 years, serviced it myself
and it never went wrong. ( even battery was original)

My 1150GS is now 6½ years old - original battery and self-serviced and it's also never gone wrong.

But if it did go wrong I could hardly expect the dealer I bought it from to fix it foc!

I better let you service my 1200 then.
