I'm round a friends house at the moment, and she is having problems with her printer running really slow, she printed a big job off last week and since then its all run at a sloths pace?

What do you reckon any easy checks I can make?

just a quick note it prints a couple of lines the waits for 30 secs and the prints one line then waits etc

If it's a big print job then it'll be holding it in memory whilst printing so will slow a bit. If it's a one page doc then something else is hogging resources.

When printing, if you look in the taskbar, bottom right, there should be the print spooler showing. Doubleclick on it and see how large the print job is. If its less than a few mb, then bring up task manager and take a look at processes running to give you an idea what else is running and how much memory it's using.

Probably summat in the background running I would think.

Also it may be that it is printing in higher quality so check printer settings and maybe try a 'quick' print in economy mode...it should fly thru in seconds.

Cheers for that, i'd already done most of that but it still makes little sense to me, however i'm away from there so its no longer my problem to sort:D

It turns out she had a new external hard drive fitted at around the same time the printing job was done so I think there may be a bigger problem than just the printing.

Many thanks anyway

Hi, back to this again

CPU usage is 100%

And there appears to be a list of tasks on the task manager that all start with 'NM index store etc, any idea what's creating those tasks?

Did the new external drive come with Nero?
NM Index is a Nero process that indexes (all?) files on the PC

Edit: Some info here about Nero Scout which I think is the visible name for the indexer

Cheers Clive, that's hit the nail squarely on the head, cheers:thumb2
