Good result, was it fairly straightforwrd to install?
Depending on model year & starter type = level of difficulty / time
06 Hexhead
Valeo (long) Bosch (short) starter
2 bolts - starter to engine case, 1 spade connector to starter solenoid , 1 Nut to starter solenoid +Ve
Tools needed 1 T45 spline socket, 2 or 3 extension bars i used a long & a short (preferably with wobble ends)
Torque wrench 19Nm - but check for your bike / model
The plastic cover can be stiff to remove, but once out its easier to replace remove , Its a bit of a wiggle twist to get the longer starter units out, the shorter ones are easier
Make sure the locating dowel stays either in the engine block or starter , & isn't missing - mine stayed in the engine block
11 Twin cam
Bosch (short) starter
2 bolts - starter to engine case, 1 spade connector to starter solenoid , 1 Nut to starter solenoid +Ve
Tools needed 1 T45 spline socket, 1 T40 spline socket 2 or 3 extension bars i used a long & a short (preferably with wobble ends)
Torque wrench 19Nm - but check for your bike / model
The plastic cover can be stiff to remove, but once out its easier to replace remove , Its a bit of a wiggle twist to get the short one moving
I also removed the exhaust rear can to give me a bit more room - be aware the banjo clamp nut assys are crudded up and invariably the nuts shear
I replaced with OEM, but TBH any nut and bolt system could be used - providing you can get the old one out
According to Real OEM & The mothership, only the Bosch unit was fitted to the TC's
The longer units - Valeo (definitely) & Arrowhead (should) fit - I tried the Valeo it fitted .
They are offered as alternative spares from
Motorworks
The TC's have the addition of the flapper servo to remove, but its only one T40 Spline
Removal / replacement is the same as above
Id you use a refurb / different motor to the Bosch unit , the Bosch plastic cover cant be reused
The Valeo has about 5mm clearance from the Servo box, whereas the Bosch unit has about 100mm
If you add additional starter& earth cables, the routing for the +Ve cable is tight by the servo connector, so needs a bit of teasing to get the servo connector plug attached / routed
First time took me about 3-4hrs taking my time
2nd time done in about an hour
