Hi all, over the past few months I have been developing my Slumbertruck. It is now a fully converted 10 berth motorhome, and registered as such. Yes it is a converted prison truck, all the better to keep your belongings safe whilst out and about!

My intention is to offer it as accommodation for hire at events such as motor racing, festivals, motorbike rallies or as a mobile base for those doing a motorcycle tour. All your gear can be stored aboard while you ride, wet gear can be hung up to air and most mod cons make it an easier alternative to camping. Plus with ten of you in it, the social aspect of it will surely live in your memories for a while! It can be delivered and set up for you, or hired with me as your beer and braai bitch! I will attend any UKGSER event with mates rates included!

I further intend to find camp sites close to the big motor sport events and hire beds out to prospective riders and fans attending but with the added bonus that they need not cart all their camping kit with them. The large gazebo and heated interior will offer pleasant social space, and the generator ensures power.
I am also exploring the idea of hiring the vehicle to camp sites, allowing them to rent the beds at a premium, especially at longer races, like IOM TT and the classics.
In a nutshell, anywhere you need extra accommodation for filming, parties or as a base for your activity this may be of help to you. Please have a look at www.slumbertruck.com or pm me for details.

looks great inside the truck ..hope it makes some dosh for you

Looks great Don :clap

2 points I'm sure you've covered, but just in case.....

1) Do you have some form of clause in your T&Cs regarding mess and clean up costs?
Hen/Stag parties can and will puke, shit and piss all over the place.....Like taxis do now, I reckon you need some cover on that in your booking setup so that you don't lose out when the shit literally hits the fan.

2) I know you're a teacher/college geezer, so I presume you already have an enhanced DBS under your belt, but as your target demographic includes kid's slumber parties, make sure that anyone involved with your side of things has a fully up to date DBS certificate......and stick that on the site as well to reassure parents :thumb2

Nice website BTW, good concept and I wish you luck :thumb

EDIT.......from a design p.o.v, your little icons showing the brie, chairs, toilets, padlock for security etc need a re-visit......they're too cramped and a bit confusing massed up like that. Just IMHO. :comfort

Thanks for the feedback. Will work on the icons. As for the security clearance, I will insist that 2 parents, opposite sex, host the party. I merely provide the accommodation. I so don't want to be a child minder anymore. Will also revisit stag etc

Don......get yerself spread all over social media like a rash as well......even run some 'free' local events for local brownies/voluntary groups, then pile it all on......get 'slumbertruck' liked by some large group FB pages and it could take off big time......Social media is where I reckon you'll get the majority of your bookings from, medium and long term :thumb2

Any scouts groups fancy an adventure weekend then...? I am a qualified adventure education specialist (honours degree to show for it too). Yes re social media, UKGSER is the first..I have a social booked in for April already, and a promising lead with Hamilton Fields Campsite for Silverstone. Lets hope they take it for the season...Hard to DBS yourself though...Hence it will mainly be rented out. But other ideas do include working with troubled kids and getting councils on board. I would run the adventure/experiential education part of the course/weekend and the council/educators woulkd be responsible for overseeing sleeping. But yes, DBS is on the cards as and when I can get an organisation to do it for me...
PS other ideas are a dads and sons -learn to amke a fire type thing weekend...or moms and daughters..or a BBQ weekend

What a great idea.:thumb Good luck, Don.

Will it be at some UKGSER events this year?

Cost depends on a few things. Which event, location, distance. But as a guide around 350 per day for the ten beds. It could well make a ukgser appearance if there is demand?

you need to harness all that methane. could offset the fuel costs :)

Does that include VAT? Important for private and commercial groups alike.
