I've used MS Money 2000 for personal accounts and Quicken(?) several years ago for small business accounts.

Now that HMRC have "outlawed" MSCs, it looks as though I'll be going back to a PSC.

Any recommendations for accounting software, ideally also able to deal with personal accounts?

I use Quick Books for personal trading, and Sage for the company. Sage is probably a bit more than I really need, but the accountants and the revenue like it.

What's PSC and MSC mean though?

We use Sage Line 50 for the same reason.

It has more capacity etc than we'll ever likely to need for our small group but the accountants etc like it.

PSC=Personal Service Company (no - not that type of personal service). This is a phrase invented by Gordon's mafia.

MSC=Managed Service Company.

I've been running my wee company (now branded as PSC by GB) for 12 years and I do my books with good old fashioned hand-written ledgers. I've avoided all kinds of computerised system as HMRC have the power to impound the datafiles.

(I also try to convince myself that having hand-written ledgers demonstrates that I'm a company just like Bob The Builder and Mr Singh's Corner Shop.)

I use quick books, easy to use. Can be a pain when first working in multi currencies though.
