I had to replace the Valeo starter on my R100GS in a bit of a hurry so I took the Bosch unit out of my 80G/S. I noticed the Valeo is held only by the two bolts at the front but the Bosch has a plate held by three small bolts on the back. I didn't fit this as I was a bit pushed for time and wondered if it is important - it looks a bit of an afterthought.

I've never had a starter problem before on a GS but the Valeo's magnets have come unstuck after 20 years so I'll probably just fit another Valeo. I've looked at the other options which are all more costly and less readily available.

Hi Tom, you could buy my old Valeo, modded with the magnets bolted in:D

John, I'll have that off you if the price is alright. What are you using now in it's place
