Smartphone: SE Xperia X1 or Nokia E71??

Smartphones.. I feckin hate em.. probably tainted by the blackberry I had a few years back.

Needs to run Windows mobile (so no blackberry or iPhone) for sync'n with exchange and other software.

I'm a long time Sony Ericsson user so looking at the Xperia. Company pushing me towards the the E71 .

Anyone any experience of either?

Got the E71.

I sort of like it, but the QWERTY keyboard drove me crazy for a while because I was used to the "normal" letters on a phone keypad. Just slows down my typing really as it is not big enough to make it feel like a real computer keyboard.

And that's another thing! I don't have big hands, but sometimes you think you need to put your fingertips into a pencil sharpener so that they can access all the keys. It is very forgiving though and offers you a choice of words when the one you have typed does not make sense!

But on balance, once you are used to it, the thing does what it is supposed to do. The email system and access to the web works well. The camera, if you need to use it, is quite good for its size. As a modem to access the web for my computer it also does its job with no fuss.

Underneath it all, it is a Nokia, with the straightforward Nokia system. I would have another one, which is about the best thing you could say about a phone I suppose.
