Smoke, funny smell, right indicator now won’t turn off

Hi all,

Funny thing happened last week whilst riding my r1150rt.

Funny smell, little bit of smoke, from front of bike, the right indicator flashing now and won’t turn off. Cancel button only stops the flashing whilst holding it down. Left indicator button will flash when pressed - resulting in both indicators flashing at same time ( as when you press the warning button)

Tried wd40 from the side plus some high pressure air to no avail.

Any ideas?
 
Maybe the flasher relay has partially burnt out? I dont believe it is one you can swap round with another to try. Maybe take it out and have a look at the casing for any sign of excessive heat or smell for any obvious burning. No.1 in this diagram

Follow the live wire from the front indicator and check for one or more melted wires which is causing the indicator to “go live” .. if you get my meaning

It's definitely the land of milk and honey. Stuff works, meaning you can crack on with things that matter. I'm good with the language, BUT when you speak danish it feels like mud comes out, it's the dullest language invented. How you feeling about the election and potential change ahead?
 
Just coming back to this, couldnt see anything obvious, but, rummaged around with indicator cabling, around the indicator, seems to have disturbed something as it now works! Thank you all that chimed in!

Are you seriously riding a bike with every wiring circuit protected by a 15 amp fuse. If so sooner than later you are likely to have a wiring fault which will cause a serious electrical fire.

A correctly rated fuse will blow before the wire starts to melt (That is its job). An over rated fuse and the wire will burn out first, but before it does, it glows red and gets hot, and when that happens the plastic insulation around the wire will melt, taking out other wires in the loom causing a chain reaction until a fire starts.

You've upset the spark dragon and let the magic smoke out. Its buggered now.
 
You’ve a hole in your wiring and the electric is leaking out., look for sparks dripping onto the floor in the area of the leak, try not to let them run away as they’re expensive, catch them in a container so you can top up the battery with sparks when you’ve fixed the leak
 
Feck. @Ian J Hartley I just noticed your post. The fuses never were all 15! I got the bike back from a garage after some work done on it, a while back, rode it once, then new battery was dead…..but he’s a very respected established independent, so I don’t get why all fuses have been replaced by him to be 15.

I’ll change them back to what they should be, but I’m possibly buggered as the bike isn’t responsive, only the clock comes on, that’s it.
