Hi

Just spent the weekend in Wales with the Touratech guys and took my GSA 2007 offroad in the mountains.

I got stuck a good few times in the mud and must have been riding the clutch!

At one stage a hugh blanket of smoke starting rising up from the engine up through the handlebars. I switch off the enine to let it cool down but since then:

1. When changing down gears its very hard and very difficult to fin neutral - changing up somes ok.

2. On occasions when in 1st or 2nd gear before i let the clutch i get a horrible vibrating and rattling noise.

Any idea what I have done? Have i destroyed the clutch

What is the likely repair bill from a BMW dealer?

Any thoughts most welcome.

Thanks Neil

What is the likely repair bill from a BMW dealer? about twice as much as Steptoe of this parish would charge you :thumb

Sounds familar!

I too used my Gs for hard of road until i destroyed the clutch at 24k tryed to get warranty to pay, they refused so left with a bill for £975 :tears

apparently if you want to do more than gravel roads etc you need a upgraded clutch (said the dealer) :blast

my symptoms where,

smell of burning when under hard use!

staling when engaging 1st or 2nd but this passed

juddering when pulling away

banging from FD or gearbox

Hope that helps :thumb2

Hi IJGser

Yes that sounds very much what I have going on with my bike - £975 ouch i guess there is alot of labour in that price?

Think i will try and find an independent dealer who could do the job?

Does anyone have any recommendations of someone who could do a clutch replacement in Hampshire or close by?

Did you replace your clutch with an upgraded one?

Cheers Neil

Held to ransom.......

The only reason i payed BMW to do it is because the bike is under warranty and half the job was done before they informed me warranty wont be paying, and yes the T&Cs say diagnosis must be paid for:(
:green gri
Not sure BMW do or fit a upgraded clutch so no its standard, if however your going independent, touratech do a ceramic clutch and i would advise this if you intend to continue with the Off road use. :thumb2

My bike is now retired to touring, commuting and very light tracks
and now hopefully the wife will let me buy a proper off-roader :beerjug:

hi

Hi

Yes i've just been checking out the ceramic clutch £432 compared to £192 for a normal one. But worth the extra expense if i continue to take it off road.

Do you know have many hours of labour that they charged you for the replacement?

Cheers Neil

clutch

Hi Neil

Picking up my new clutch from touratech next sat, they allow 10.5 hrs to fit one, did not ask what there labour rate was--- to scared, the clutch is costly enough. Intending to fit myself. If you need any details let me know.

John
