mate i sympathise

dont do it, you have done the long haul already, just remember going back to quitting again

i quit about the same time as you, and yes everything in the home is eatable, everything

just stay with it dude:thumb2

Go on, you know you want one

Very good, posted in the right place. :D

Can't help answer your question though, still haven't given up... :blast

Exercise can stop the cravings :thumb2

Failing that keep yourself busy and avoid the pubs until the cravings have gone.

Great timing with this thread, thanks. I've got an appointment with a Pharmacist this afternoon to start on the long road to nicotine none-dependence. Just a few rollies left in my last pack of Drum and then...

Brush your teeth.
No really, it works. Helps stop the craving.

I know what you're going through. And the late stage cravings are more dangerous because you really do believe that you could have 'just one'.

Very true, this will be my second attempt. I gave up with patches a few years back, did the full 6 weeks till patch free and felt great, no cravings. Had a few beers one night, got passed a spl*ff, took a drag without thinking and WHAM! nicotine receptors back on line

Stopped last year for three months.
Gained 13 kilos.

Started smoking again thinking that would help me stop getting fatter.
Now I smoke again and gained another 5.

Considering to stop smoking again before this summer.
I'll become a whale.

BTW the "brush you teeth" trick works.

Gave up (again:rolleyes:) last week.....7 days now, and i managed to get through yesterday's ambush without grabbing one, though it was close, very close.

I need to get fitter, without a doubt, so Fags first, then booze levels way down.....i'm too much of a poof to do them at the same time :blast

My Target is to stop on Thurs' morning.

I've just taken the first roll-up out of a Golden Virginia and will stop using it first thing Thursday morning.

First reason is for my own benfit and the second reason is because there's a bird I see, at a place at work at from time to time, and I'm hoping it will curry some favour with her because she doesn't touch 'em: drinks like a fish though. :augie

great thread by the way. :thumb

i gave up two years ago after smoking 40 a day then going onto inhaling a pipe never tried before but wanted to give up as new grandson arrived and i didnt want to smell like an ash tray. I used the cesation nurse and the best advice she gave was just take one day at a time. yes i do still get the urge especialy when out on the GS but i just think of what a smokers breath smells like and that helps. if you dont do it the first time YOU HAVNT FAILED you just wernt well enough prepared good luck boys

I packed in last December, and for the first month it drove me up the wall. It wasn't the cravings (I used the patches & they really help with that) - it was just the frustration of trying to get out of the habit. I would find myself reaching for the smokes every 5 minutes, and having to remind myself that I don't do that any more. Then 5 minutes later I'd be doing it again. It felt like it would never go away, but after a couple of months it sort of faded away. Eventually I realised one day that I hadn't thought about having a cig in weeks.

So stick with it and good luck! The thought of giving up is so much worse than actually giving up... :thumb2

I tried to give up a few weeks ago but only lasted a couple of days. I'm really shocked at how weak I am.
I think it's association.
If I go out on the GS I have a bit of fun then stop somewhere have a brew get the top box open and have a fag it just seems to go hand in hand.:comfort

Couple of lads I work with quite a lot, they both smoke so it's difficult.

I'm going to try again at the end of the week.
Can't do it during the week as I've 3 boilers to fit and when a heating system is draining what else is there to do but nip outside and have a ciggie.:augie

I know it's excuses, but I really will try.

We may have to set up a group on here guys to help each other out.

About 4 years ago I gave up. Was on the patches which made me feel like shite as it turns out I was OD'ing on them! Symptoms were like flu, shakes, shivers, aching joints etc:eek

Packed in the patches and was ok but then started to get anxiety "episodes" weird uneasy feelings like butterflies in the stomach. (A mate of mine had full blown panic attacks when he packed them up)

Anyway, gave up for 3 years, and started again a year ago after pub and too much ale interface scenario:blast

Booked an appointment with the practice anti smoking nurse for next week,,,, fingers crossed (better stock up on the valium!!):thumb

I gave up 5 years ago, everytime I wanted a smerk, I went for a walk, so lost any additional weight due to excercise, then bought some weights and started working out. Still doing it to this day (addictive personality), I read somewhere you get a high from excercise, so I guess it kind of replaced the smerking reward?

Tried to gum and patches, but fer me it was about changing my habits.

My routine, y'know? Basically,

Wake up - coffee & Tab
Get to work - coffee and Tab
Breakie / dinner / tea - Tab
Alchohol - Tab
Coffee - Tab

Mind you I had a good incentive, my Dad recently died of Lung Cancer due to smoking (shitty way to go) and my wife was up the duff with our first human child.

Still miss it sometimes, but I've still got masterbation :thumb

If nothing else, be honest about what you used to spend and put that cash to one side - then go and treat yourself to something you've always wanted.

Gave up 13 years ago after 20 fags plus a box of cigars a day and now have a GS in the garage:)

It does get easier - honest,

Dick
