Superduke is much sharper handling and a bit more powerful. Can still be ridden good distances especially if you fit a small touring screen (KTM or Puig). Couple of SD's for sale in the For Sale section including mine :D:D

Been a long time since I had a ride on a superduke, but I remember my over riding thoughts were that I could never own one because I just couldn't ride it sensibly. Well, that's not quite right ... it didn't want to be ridden sensibly.
That's fine when you're up for a play, but whilst I love a good old hoon, I also want to be able to get from A to B without trying to do it all on my back wheel. It was all the superduke wanted to do.
It would have driven me nuts eventually :D

SMT is a much better choice. Hoon when you want to, but it can be sensible too ... :thumb2

I had a SD, it was mad, or rather it made me mad, great for a quick blast:D

I moved from a 990 Supermoto to a 990 Superduke. Test rode the SMT before going for the SD. Loved it, but found it hard to justify the price difference. Superduke feels much tighter, more agile somehow. Probably as it's a bit more low-slung. I prefer it, personally, to the Supermoto (which is very similar to the SMT).

I have a pal with an SD and he's toured all over the place on his. Mine has a taller screen from the standard 'lip'. It's far from a GSA screen, but does a reasonable job.

Mine's up for sale, as is another beauty, on this forum, if you're interested.

Cheers, Jon

Had a 950SMR which was a fantastic bike but had a pathetic tank range. (90 miles the way I rode it). as others have said, the 950/990 engines are great - The superduke is a hooning machine, if you're coming from a GS then the SMT is probably a safer bet.

The trouble is a lazy boxer suits my riding style,:rob I never thought of a superduke untill I saw pricey's ad, luggage situation doesn't look great with those high pipes :nenau.
I know I'm going to regret selling the GSA, but maybe I need a little more FUN injecting into my motorcycling to rekindle my love for riding `I used to have :blast
I'll try to get a sit on one there is one in a bike shop near me think I'll have a close up look at one :thumb

Depends on how much you want to carry - I use the KTM tank bag and Kreiga bags fit well onto the rear seat ;)

My chum had a Ventura rack fitted to his SD (with a bit of custom metalwork needed - local welder charged him about £80). Same Akra cans as me and it clears these no problem, with room for a hefty bag. Has a quick-release mechanism for easy removal. Attached a pic of his bike.

Jon.

leaning towards SMT but going on the forum, they seem as unreliable as a 1200 gs :hide
Lots on here have had ktm adventures with no problems, I hear story's of poor build quality, thinking maybe of a cross dresser or super ten as I don't want to sell my 1150 and buy a load of trouble :blast.
also like a multistrada :nenau do I go head or heart ?????

Dazzle,

I've been running an SMT for the last 2 years and have done 15,000 miles from new on it - just buy one, they are sooo much fun :thumb

Here's a couple of threads for you to read if you've got a few mins to spare:-

That brings you more or less up to where I am now, I've done 15,000 miles on the bike so far and have ridden the arse off it, thinking if anythings going to go wrong on it i want it to happen while its under warranty still, but its never missed a beat.

If the suspension is still on its standard settings it might feel a bit loose, I've got mine set onto the sport settings and its very well controlled now but still soaks up the crap roads.

I have been riding with some guys that have KTM's for about the last 4 years and they have been bulletproof, and far better build quality than an ADV GS that rides with us. That gave me the confidence in there build quality and reliability to buy one of my own.

I guarantee once you hit 6,000 revs on it you will laugh out loud at the shove you get from this bike, its so much fun to ride.

Service costs - £160 for minor, every 4.5 k

and £460 for the biggie valve check job every 9k

If you want to know anything else drop me a pm.

Cheers,

Poucher :thumb

Cheers poucher I test rode a cross tourer and a superten yesterday :D
didn't like the riding position and feel of the cross tourer, too high and felt remote, loved the engine though
super ten suited me down to the ground just a tad flat feeling from the engine but rode excellently but I think it's too expensive.
back to the KTM if I can find a bargain nice orange one privately near me but I want a black or white one :blast.

Decisions, decisions :blast now I have just seen a nice adv 990 but its been used off road how much would this affect its resale ??? value
no panel damage etc just a few wheel change, chips, couple of marks on swing arm etc its in VGC

Nooooooooooooo
