I had no trouble with my new (to me Smugmug account) when I first started but since I've followed the herd (or should that be advice from people in the know?) and started using Firefox instead of IE, I've been having problems uploading images.

I twigged that I couldn't use the default (Windows) uploader and found one that worked with Firefox but today I decided to get around to uploading all my older pictures and nothing will work!

It goes through the motions, I get the uploading box but once it stops all I'm left with is an empty gallery and "0 files were received".

In the meantime I've gone back to IE to transfer the images.

Who's going to be the first to point out what a numpty I'm being and explain to me where I'm going wrong?

Second question. If having uploaded all my pictures, is it safe to delete them from my PC and just rely on Smugmug with maybe a back-up on CD?

My Smugmug works fine with Firefox Mike...I use the 'beta batch uploader thing'.

Actually, it does sometimes stall half way through a big upload but I just pick it up again from the last pic recieved.......

No idea what's causing the problem I'm afraid but it might be worth Emailing Chris's team..they're very good with support issues.

As for the backups.....Debateable.....

I've still got copies of everything I've uploaded here on my PC, and I think when I need more space, I'm going to copy them to DVD before I delete them jsut in case.....catestrophic server centre failures have been known to happen and although SMugmug uses off-site backups IIRC, why risk it for the sake of just burning a CD or DVD?

PS.....I've just thought about it and I reckon it'll be a JAVA problem (the upload for firefox is JAVA driven)

Make sure you have the latest JAVA client...and maybe uninstall it then get the one from the Firefox extension site if it doesn't work properly still.

Java can be a bit eggy sometimes.

Cheers Bill,

I'll finish off in IE (as I'm back there) then try your suggestion before contacting the support :thumb

I only ever use IE for uploading - its the only time i ever use it.

got my IE homepage set to the smugmug upload page :thumb

I think that I may do that too. It's a lot more simple than the others and that sort of suits me :o

Copied from a thread on ADVRider

Hello ,

Thanks for contacting Smugmug. We are having some problems today with uploading. We are working on it and hopefully it won't take that long

to fix. Thank you for your patience.

All the best,
