This evening I decided at the last moment to "nip" up the road to Ladybower Reservoir and then up to at least the summit of Snake Pass....just to clear the cobwebs.

Beautiful balmy summers evening with the threat of thunderclouds gathering over the Pennines so I thought I'd give it a go. Set off at 9.00 tonight and beautiful empty road all the way to Ladybower.

To my delight I could see the A57 at Ladybower traffic lights blocked off with bollards, a maintenance van with flashing lights and a road sign saying "A57 Snake Pass CLOSED between 7.00 p.m and 6.00 a.m."

I'd noticed that "they" were resurfacing either side of the summit when I crossed last week, so passing the van/signs/bollards I knew I'd have the Snake to myself ( well as far as the roadworks anyrode) . Absolutely wonderful...not a car or soul anywhere. kept stopping to take in the sound of silence and smell the damp summer smells.

Can't fekkin beat it.

I think your camera is broken. One of the pictures seems to be a bit of a bum shot.

what i want to know is who did you get to pick your glove up?

Lovely pictures TinyTim.

When we finally get a ride out together will we see girls like this. Having said that she is a real hazard to safe riding. Eyes on the road man.

Will ring soon to arrange a bimble of a neet.

Snake

Did this run myself at around 9:30 last Sunday morning. :D

The Snake was open but unusually quiet for a Sunday.

Managed to get all the from the Ladybower traffic lights right upto to the summit without coming across another road user (aside from the knob in the M3 who came up behind me just after the lay-by Cafe overlooking the water- but having observed his aggressive driving style for a mile or two soon left him well beyond the range of my mirrors). :D

A word to the wise for anybody enjoying this well troden route at the moment...there are a number of raised manhole covers around which are obviously as a result of the aforementioned roadworks.

That said, give it a week or two and our beloved snake will certainly be the better (& alot smoother) for it. :thumb

Much love x

On the Snake yesterday

They are doing a lot of resurfacing work, no work people seen, plenty of signs, new tarmac and areas where the top surface had been removed. There was a blanket 30 mph on the Pass for a fair few miles.

And even a duck walking down the road......

.....

Signs say "Nightime work. Closed from 7.00 p.m until 6.00 a.m." I assume the 30 mph limit will suit you too won't it? :thumb

:eek::eek: Aarrrgh ! Not the "Advancedbiker" of Youtube "fame" ? Hi. You still making those cringeworthy vydeos? There is, I'm sure, some software out there that could change your running commentary from your voice to summink like Ozzy Osbourne.....or mebbe that bloke that says..."You buy one, you get one free"

Certainly spice things up a bit.
