I see you haven't made an alternative to the 'hardpiece' (fork protector) yet, but feel sure you've more mods to share with us.
Thanks Mech - as someone above said - if it had Touratech on it, it would be desirable! I posted
a fuller story on the USA Adv site re what lead to this mod. Essentially was riding along a flooded
road not more than about 20cm deep, standing up on pegs and the bike SUCKED water in through snorkel.
Did the prescribed pull plugs, drain airbox etc and she started up only die again - had still been water in box which sucked back in...in trying to restart poked starter motor etc...EXPENSIVE even with help from my insurance!!! After enquiry from
our BMW offroad guru who has trained as an instructor at that infamous Bavarian academy...he stated YES at a certain speed the wake pushed up is at exactly the right height for disaster. At the said academy after f'ing up many Gs's they have reduced the depth etc of the water-crossings.
So beware - one really does not have to be over the pots, up to the gunwales for disaster.
re your question re fork protector not sure if you mean the legs or stops - leg protectors can be easily made from PVC pipe cut lengthwise. My solution at present to the fork stops (expensive TT hardpart) is to glue two small hard rubber bungs to the stops at the steering head...this cusions any shock and also gives me protection from handlebars on my wider aftermarket screen.
One can likewise contact glue two bungs (can look for grey) to paralever where one would find the TT part contacting (theirs is realy overengineered).
