So I've just borrowed a new Rallye whilst my TC RT is in for warranty work...

Bloody hell. This thing is an absolute weapon, goes like stink, awesome brakes and suspension. How am I meant to go back to my RT now.

Cannot believe the different between the twin cam and the latest boxer engine.

You didn't borrow it. They loaned it to you, and there's a reason why they did exactly that :augie

Oh I have no doubt about why they've let me take it out for a few days. However I can't afford it and my Mrs loves a heated seat too much so I'm pretty safe in that area.

You can get aftermarket heated seats :augie:D

The point still stands that I can't afford it :rob However I would definitely go for the standard GS as all the off-road stuff would be wasted on me. At least I know my next bike now.

Also I basically have to take a loaner due to my nearest BMW being 2 hours away on public transport. :blast

One of my mates had a similar experience with my bike - R1200GS TE 2015 with a Hilltop job done on it. He was going on about how he had ridden half a dozen of these over the years but not one of the later LC versions - he has not stopped talking about it ever since, it's the bike of his dreams, but he's not sure if he would keep his licence long! It's not that it fast, it's just easy to go fast :green gri

Yup, go with the lickable chocolate TE for that more grown up, sophisticated, integrated bike look rather than the shell-suit, upgraded DT175 version...:hide

I was the same after I rented one in Spain from bmwmotohire - except I bought one within 7 days of getting home.

Go for one, you won't regret it.

I had one when my 2004 1200GS went in for it's circa 90,000 service. Yes it's a bit more powerful. Yes it has more toys.... but not enough to justify the £15k trade 'up' ....my ever evolving bike with Nitron suspension, Kahedo seat, tall screen, Bumot/Givi luggage combo does it for me 13 years on.. plus I know it and it's foibles and pack accordingly.

Sounds similar to when i tried one after my tc gsa, felt like the brakes were seized getting back on the tc. That watercooled engine feels way faster than an extra 15bhp has a right to.

That's the thing keeping my feet on the ground. My rt is mine and not on finance so financially it makes no sense for me to change. Plus I really do like my rt and I think I'd lose my license with those new engines.

Maybe in a few years.

After spending week on r1200r loan bike, which was a lot of fun (much more so than the s1000r) it struck me that there is something about the riding position of adventure bikes that makes their power units deceptively slow. Whilst the gs can't go up against most of the competition for all out speed, the stats on it aren't as shabby as some make out. Biggest issue for me is the short gearing especially 2nd.

If you cannot afford it, listen to your common sense, I wish I could listen sometimes :blast

I know the feeling - my dealer gave me an i8 for a day, then told me to take it home overnight... I'm still enjoying the flashbacks!
