Hello newbie here, my name is Adrian and I live in good old Essex, I am married with two beautiful girls.. I currently ride a heavily modified RSV 1000 Here is my topic.... I've had enough of sports bikes now I've been riding bikes since I was six yrs old and ridden sports bikes for the eight yrs but enough is enough and it's time for a change. So.. within the next six months I will be looking at buying a GS1150 adventure, the reason I would like an adventure is, I am looking to do some touring around the UK and Europe. My wife will be pillion a lot of the time. But I also want to use the bike for going to work most of the year round, and also for those Sunday blasts out on my own. And possibly the odd bit of green laning too.

So fellow UKgser's I really asking what to look for when buying one and what are they like to live with.

Many thanks

Not as good as the 1200GSA...... :D

I'm sure that's true apart from the electrics on them from what I hear...:augie

But two kids,a wife and a dog funds won't allow a 1200GSA,for now..........(peers over shoulder to check the wife isn't watching what I'm typing)...

1150gsa

the most amazing bike
had mine 6 years faultless
a bit heavy
once you get riding you will just smile
and you will love it
best of luck :beerjug:

Hi Aidy. Have had both the 1200 and currently the 1150GSA. I much prefer the 1150GSA. More comfortable, handles brilliantly, not quite as quick as the 1200 although there's not much in it.

I'm in Essex myself, not far from Lakeside, if you want to try one for size :thumb2

Wot he said too - as I have his bike now!:beerjug:

You don't notice the weight when rolling (well above walking pace really) but you do get good at looking where you're stopping. Oh and making sure the sidestand is down... DAMHIK...:blast

Had mine 7 years and just got rid. Trouble free the whole time, easy to service and cheap to run if you look after it yourself. Leans over too far on the sidestand. Seat is shite. Easy to ride, very solid handling, screen needs sorting to stop buffeting, 250 miles to a tank on average the way i ride, can get more on a long run easily. Big old lump to push around helps if you have long legs as previously mentioned. Try and get one without servo brakes, never had a problem with my servo but it's easier if it has'nt got one and in my opinion makes the back brake useless. i used tourances on it and on average got 11k out of a rear 19k from a front. Cover it in acf50 and keep it clean and it will still look good in 20 years time.

Bloody lovely to own and to ride. I was stopped at lights on the way to work and a bloke in a car next to me winds his window down, thumbs up the bike and say's he's got 2 of them - No it wasn't JB :thumb

Brilliant choice, the most comfortable bike I've ever owned. Big & heavy though but it is capable of upsetting quite a few leatherclads. :D

As others have said it needs extra care when you stop as any foot-slide or uneven surface can result in it falling slowly over.

Don't stall it pulling out of junctions when cold :eek

Get the seat modded by Sargent (spelling ?) or others.

Wear earplugs and you wont worry about ticking noises

.

I bought the 1150 GSA as a bit of a winter bike in order to take my Pan European off the road, to be honest, I never rode the Pan again and was so impressed with it I bought a new 1200 GSA in the spring, I have now completed 12K miles on the 1150 & although I love the 1200, the 1150 seems to be 1st choice out of the garage.

Lol ......

Guys.... thank you so much for the information, you've been really helpful. You all seem like a great buch of people. Well as far as I see it. You lot have convinced me that it's seems like it the right way to go. Well all I can say is watch this space. Many thanks Aidy49.:thumb

Have owned mine one month, I am now wondering why I took so long to sort one out.

I've slowed down and take a little more time to enjoy my rides. It hussles if you want but obviously isn't an rsv. As I am only 5'8" I also concentrate more on stopping than I used to on my ducati lol.

Can't comment on owning a 12 (as with you, finances figured in my decision) but it is a wonderful bike.

I went for the newest lowest mileage non servo / non abs model I could find and am a definite convert. I have fitted tkcs and have taken it off road which was a real giggle.

I am getting the saddle sorted as I have found it a little uncomfortable, otherwise it's faultless.

Good luck.
