So what's wrong with the stock 1150GS?

The demonstrator was a graphitan - I thought I might like it but close up - nah, even the notoriety of having a rarer colour couldn't persuade me to have the grafeetan and don't even get me started on the replacement for the :monkeypiz

Still having experienced the servo brakes yesterday I'm glad new isn't an option for me either. So its silver, black or tarts handbag, unless they throw in a free respray :D

Tarts handbags are getting too common now - everybody thought they were buying something different, and paying £200 quid extra for the privilege - now they're all over the place, as noted at the Hogroast.

Get yourself a nice, rare Mandarin one....:)

Now come on Steve, isn't it enough of a victory that the very first 1150 I rode was a Mandarin one? I think I'm going to be joining Dave McK in having a black one as I already have such an affinity with black GS's so long as I can have black seats.

In any event I won't be paying extra for the tart's handbag as I won't be buying new for sure ;)

Yup.........Black's real Cooooooooooool;)

Good Choice, or is it compromise Judge:p

But used 1150s are not much cheaper than new. Can't understand why - they are so close it HAS to be worth the extra few hundred quid for a factory fresh unused one. Is it worth a 12% or so saving to get someone's cast-off instead of a new bike?

In any other market (from cars to non-GS bikes) you make a mega saving by taking the cast-off rather than the branny, even if it's only a year old.

Seems like a bubble set to burst to me. Think I'll wait a while until normal market forces apply, which eventually, they will.

The spec I want comes in at a hefty £9143 new. A 2001 same spec with 15K on the clock is coming in at £6.5K Still with a warranty so I get a year to find all its 'characteristics' and get them sorted.

Now my CSE grade 5 in maths is a weakness but I'm not seeing 12% I'm seeing something nearer 30%

Dealers don't sell 1150GS's in so much as a supermarket doesn't sell bread Its cash and carry territory, you walk in hand over your cash and the dealer hands over the bike. There is no deals to be had here. Buy a scarver or that R1200C thing and the dealer will bite your hand off and be a friend for life.

The win is more about how quickly you can get the bike off the dealer, is it in the showroom or on their allocation sheet? If not then you've got a wait on your hands.

"though most usually reserved for blue n white ones"

You've been talking to Malky.

Judge you don't Need all those tarty extra's.
Get the bike first and then see how you feel about changing the bits.
Let me know if you wanna try a sargent seat or screen out;)

Andy if you end up with red seats have no fear. I used to have a black 1100 with red seats which I hated. Found a coach building company who are the only suppliers I know of you sell a kit to change the colour of vinyl to any colour you like. They have a prep agent and then a special aerosol paint for vinyl. I used black and people couldn't believe it had been sprayed. When I sold it the dealer was so amazed he asked for their details. It keeps the grain effect and doesn't fade with time or crack in any way.
Cost was about £25. Let me know if you want the details.
I bet they will even do MANDARIN if you ask them!!;)

Thta's a lot more reasonable than I'd seen them. Where can I find a 2001 1150 with all the toys for 6.5K?

notadrop,

I'm after a black seat for my Adventure, so if possible, could you please post or PM the details of the coach building company. Cheers, Geoff:beerjug:

Mr Judge, are you feeling ok.......I am really in shock, never did I see you coming to the dark side!!!!

Now lets talk about the equipment you will need and the gear.
I can compose a full list if you wish.......or you should be up to speed on the "must haves" by now!!!!

The Pan would be a straight swap no?

Look forward to hearing the outcome.

I've just been down to Williams in Manchester. They have a 2001 GS (blue and white) with heated grips, ABS, hand protectors, 8800 miles for £7,300. It's quite clean, but not as immaculate as my Viffer.

A new one this spec woul be £9,150 - so it's about a 20% saving.

There's no warranty on it (the man said they only come with 1 year's when new). And it's got a Remus can - is that good, bad, legal?

That's quite a bit more than the £6,500 you quote. Was that a private buy? Does this Williams bike (apart from the colour) seem a reasonable price?

I don't have a problem with my stock GS1150..... Apart from my wallet restricts me to a V-reg 2000 model and not latest 03 twin sparker.

There's also nothing wrong with the stock R1, but some people think that changing the exhaust and screen will make there's more personal... except of course they buy the same bits as all the others that want to change the same bits!

It's all horses for courses. I might look at replacing the seat as after the 800-odd miles for the National Rally weekend I was in a bit of pain. But will I do that sort of mileage without proper stops again?

I don't find the screen any more discomforting that that of my previous SK1 (2001 model) Bandit. After a single 500 mile ride on a screen and fairingless Suzuki GT750 you are prepared for anything!

But then again perhaps it's me that's not averagel?

Flyer,
I don't want to reveal too much of my hand in what is a public forum but suffice to say SPC (which admitedly isn't on your doorstep, or mine!) have a good range of GS's, some of which reflect close to my originally quoted 'ball park example'

And then you negotiate!! ;)

Don't expect the dealer with one bike to trade, especially as its a tart's handbag (blue n white), the new :monkeypiz

When that bike was new it would've only come with a one year warranty, now they come with two. Just because BMW won't provide a warranty, there's nothing stopping the dealer doing so.

I'd go as far to suggest if there's no warranty what exactly is the incentive for you to pay dealer prices?

Nowt wrong with a Remus can, they do several though some are NOT road legal, helps if its been set up properly though (many posts on this stuff on the board). I'd pay no more for it though unless they include the original can.
