I've done 32,000 miles since arriving in the USA in Feb.

Last week, Jorge (Rubber Cow) and I did the 72k major service on the bike. I'd already done the oil & filter change 2k miles earlier. The bike had been getting progressively lumpier and surgy for the last 2-3k miles, which I put down to it needing a good valve & throttle body tweaking.

Well the valves, which were last adjusted 14k miles previously, were spot on. The throttle bodies were, as expected, way out. We re-balanced them with a Twinmax, reset the TPS (ie Fuse 5 out & 2 open-pause-closes on the throttle), replaced the fuel & air filters.

The thing still surges and vibrates excessively.

Now, this bike surged from new and, despite heroic efforts by my dealer's mechanics, only fitting a Techlusion 259 cured it.

I've an appointment with an independent mechanic over in Bend, Oregon (about 3hrs away), on Thursday next week to have a look at it and put it on his Dyno. Talking to him on the phone, he asked all the right questions, was satisfied I'd covered most points except:

Fuel pump - is it producing sufficient pressure? (it's certainly not making unusual noises...).

Lambda Probe - is it on the way out? (I've always been told that, along with lumpy performance, a bad Lambda Probe would also produce excessive fuel consumption - if anything, my fuel consumption has improved...).

Techlusion breaking down - he is a Techlusion dealer & can test for this.

Any other ideas/educated guesses gratefully received...

have you rechecked the settings on the pots with a digimeter - they seem very sensitive

I have fitted a 259 and it has improved the situation

Not yet, although the TPS has not been disturbed at all. It's one of the jobs that Dave (over in Bend) is going to look at. Thanks for the suggestion. The 259 cured the surge immediately (I had it set up on the Dyno at the importers in Silverstone).

did they give you the volt settings for each of the pots? - interesting to compare them to find out if they have changed?

Also to compare with the Techlusion "initial" recomended numbers

It's my understanding that there's only one potentiometer (or TPS) - the one fitted to the left hand throttle body. Are we talking about the same thing...

I think that Paragon means the potentiometers in the R259, Mike. Could have drifted, possibly??

Aha! No - not altered them at all - don't intend to until I've had the whole unit checked out... Small steps...

inlet manifolds leaking or porous? spray them with wd40 with the engine ticking over.Does the engine then smooth out momentarily? If so replace them as sealing them with silicon sealant doesn't work.Had this problem even on new bikes
