I really don't like using hard panniers unless I'm leaving the bike somewhere where security is an issue and the KTM bread bins are not only somewhat restricted on the RH side but they make the bike weave a bit at speed so I've bought a pair of used Wolfman expedition panniers.

Capacity won't be an issue because they're 38l between the pair of them, add a Kriega US20 on top of them plus a tank bag and I've got more than enough room for 2 weeks worth of clutter but my only slight concern is if they need holding away from the exhaust.

Has anyone here tried using these on an 1190 and if so did they get a bit warm, did you just ignore it because high wind speed will cool things down or did you have to buy something like a pair of pannier hoops to keep them stood off the exhaust?

My gut feeling is that if I'm using the US20 bag I can always put it under the top straps on the panniers to lift them up a few inches and that should do the job. If they arrived the day before I was due to set off on holiday I'd just go for it and worry about it if shit happened so that's probably what will happen anyway but I thought I might as well ask the question :D

Well they've arrived and I don't know why I was even slightly concerned. I've crammed a load of junk into them and fitted them on the bike and they sit just above the can and fit nice and tight both sides. I'll definately be using them in preference to the KTM panniers for most trips and with a bit of luck the bike will even handle better at speed when it's fully loaded.

They probably wouldn't be much good with a pillion but anything that encourages more women to ride motorbikes can't be bad.

I'll put them back on and take some photos on Monday. I'm off to Cadwell Park at lunchtime today so may be a bit pushed for time if I try to get everything packed for the weekend plus refit panniers.

I'm getting a lift to the circuit otherwise I might have been giving the panniers a proper test run rather than stuffing dirty old overalls in them.
