Following the success of the ‘Winter gathering’ it would be great to repeat the event in the early summer, 4/5/6 July 2025

If this suits enough people, I’d suggest going back to the Seven Stars, near Wool, Wareham, Dorset at not least as we know it works, the ground is firm enough, the pub is very friendly / convenient / has decent food, and (not least) there is plenty to do in the area.

I think we learned a bit about the BBQ catering on the ‘Winter jaunt’, as we over definitely clubbed it on the food front. We also now know that the pub (not unreasonably) requires pretty clear numbers for any meals that they provide. Without making it too hard, I suggest:

1. We have a list of the people wanting the pub to cater for them on Friday night at say 19:15. This worked well last Friday.

2. We have a list of people wanting the pub to cater for them on Saturday night at time to suit.

3. We have a list of people wanting to have the pub breakfast on Saturday and / or Sunday morning. We now know that the pub does breakfast at about 08:00.

4. We have a list of the people wanting the BBQ on Saturday night and / or our DIY campsite breakfast on Saturday morning. This will enable us to shop for food accordingly. Obviously, some people will encounter a cost for this, so perhaps we should have some kind of non-refundable deposit (say £10) for those who’d like to cater / be catered for? Any shortfall could be made good on the day and / or any surplus donated to charity. Clearly the weather might well dictate the attraction or otherwise of alfresco BBQ life, but hey, so does Bubonic Plague.

5. Anyone not on a list, is simply self -catering.

I for one am happy to ‘donate’ my double gas ring, gas BBQ and gas bottle to the cause. It might though be handy to have an additional gas or (reliable) coal BBQ available, if there is a number of us. That’ll become clearer with the numbers responding to point 4.

All and any thoughts / comments welcome….,

Richard

I’d definitely be up for another event there, and good weather would be a bonus too!

I'm in. Routes are now already planned lol. The pub is very accommodating. I even dried my clothes in there on Friday night.. As for the BBQ, all we'll need is an actual grid or closing grid to put sausage on and turn. We can cobble our own barrel or container at ground level if need be. We really need a proper braai for meat, and some charcoal to help. I bet if we could find / source a half barrel she's let us drop it off and keep it for us. I agree with the costs, hated to see so much food get wasted etc. Its a brilliant venue

I think we did OK at the first ‘New Forest’ event and at the ‘Soft shandy drinkers’, cooking the excellent Boerewors on the gas BBQ. The ‘problem’ was that we had too much food overall, which meant we had to transfer stuff around, which can make it a bit disjointed on the timing front. If we had just one more decent sized gas BBQ, I think it would go OK.

I know from our time of going to Le Mans that eventually the stuff that gets left locally for the future, just gets left there, not least as people forget what’s left behind for future use.

Besides another decent sized gas BBQ, what I do think we need is another table or two, so the cooked food can be put out there for chopping up etc. Put simply, we ran out of space, not helped as it was dark. When I got home, I found that I had brought two tables, but had simply forgotten to use tge second.

I can’t get much more in my ‘Winter car’……

I'm just wondering are there any bikers who are feeling pressured into using vehicles so we can make catering easier? In saying that, all the comforts are super welcome and make life a bloody lot easier, but I just wonder if anyone else wanted to be a biker, strapped to the hilt with luggage and ride bikes?

Hmm
Are there rideouts?
I might possibly bring the GSA on the Motolug then..

I`d like to register an expression of interest in this doo in July.

I`ll be on a bike and under a tarp - but not at the same time.

I don’t think I can attend as I will still be in rehab from my upcoming elbow surgery in late June.
