Looking at a 17 plate at Preston HD, low mileage and '17 plate - just under £14k and quite tempted

The new ones are not an awful lot dearer but have the new 107 MW engine - I think.

Is the newer engine that much better?

Has anyone got or ridden either please?

I was determined to get a Softail Slim S (the green/gold one) for ages but could find one at the right money. That previous generation Softail was quite heavy and hard work but packed with character and I loved the look.

I have tried a number of the M8 bikes, Street Bob (107), Fat Bob (114), Fat Boy (114), Breakout (114 stage II) and have to say the newer bikes are hugely improved perhaps every regard except looks. What I really liked with the M8 bikes is they worked out of the crate, without having to do intake and exhaust for them to run properly.

The M8 bikes all have very different characters, and contrary to my expectations, I rated the Street Bob the best and the Breakout the worst, do it's worth trying a few to find out what suits you before you decide.

You should be able to get a good low mileage/ex dem from M8 that suits you for less than the £14k, it might just not be a Slim.

I did look at a Street Bob but would have wanted forward pegs putting on as I found the standard position too cramped for me.

There are a couple at Chester HD so might go down this route.

Just drawn to the looks of the Slim but not many about to try.

M8 engine is brilliant, but it’s a Harley and it ain’t gonna blow ya socks if you go with the older 103 or the 107.

Buy whatever is the best deal, prices seem very inconsistent so sometimes hard to gauge.
