I have just received my update DVD for CN v9 to CN 2008, when I try to install it I get the mesage that there is not enough space on my C: drive. there is no option to install it anywhere else like with the full CN v9. I have a D: drive where I like to install all my extra programs, anybody have ideas how to get round this b4 I go ahead and reinstall XP and all the crap i have on my computer?????

dunno if your C and D drives are on the same disc or not.

if the former, use something like Partition Magic to resize the partitions, leaving data intact.

if the latter, buy a bigger drive and clone the old C onto the new disc.

Or run CCcleaner or the likes to free up some room on your C drive.

And go to http://www.whitecanyon.com/secureclean-download.php and download their demo. It's free to use for 2 weeks and you'll be astounded at how much space you can free up by clearing all those deleted e-mails etc that are still really there  :thumb

Try this first before going for a total re-install ;)

I have not checked but why not try uninstalling V9 and, as that lets you choose where to put it, reinstall it on your D drive. Then maybe when you update to 2008 it will just overwrite the original installation of the D drive

his new disc is an update, so will not work unless there is an existing installation.

if you're running that close to HDD capacity, getting some more space should be a priority anyway.

The original post infers that a V9 full install disc is available.

Agreed but the original question infers that there is enough space on the D: drive for an installation. Whether or not the C: drive space limits should be addressed is another question but removing the Garmin software from C: and reinstalling on D: will release some C: capacity as well.

No software UPDATES provide an option to choose an install location as they overwrite the original files so it seems reasonable to assume the Garmin update works the same way.

Hence my suggestion to proceed as follows:

- Uninstall everything
- Reinstall using the V9 disc and select the D drive as the installation location
- Now run the 2008 update and it will almost certainly use the same location as the original installation.
