I've got XP setup on the PC and we let the kids use it to play flash games etc. Last night my wife came in to find a full on porn picture on the screen (no I'm not gonna post the URL, this is serious). Now, there's no way my 6 year old son would have found this intentionally (I hope), so I was wondering if anyone out there could recommend a good software package to restrict access to certain types of website. I know there may still be holes (excuse the pun), but I'd like to minimise any risk of exposure for the kids who are only 6 and 7. Obviously I'd need to get access for my own account though.
They mainly use it to play little flash games trial riding etc, so there must have been a chain of links from one of those. The PC is off-limits until I'm confident I can stop them accessing stuff they shouldn't (including UKGSER)..:D

Serious suggestions most welcome.

I used 'Net Nanny' when mine were growing up and it seemed to work OK with the added bonus that you can configure the softwar to suit your own requirements.
Although I had a disc, I notice that you can download it from the web albeit for a charge ! Just type Net Nanny into Google.

Best of luck.

I use Norton Internet Security, but I restrict it to only allow my daughter to 'approved' sites.

If she wants to access something else, I check it out and then add it to the list.

That way I know where she can get to and have piece of mind.

As she's starting to get older, we are adding more, and then at some point I'll think about switching over to the Norton Parental Control list, although I'm not convinced that its kept that up to date. We'll cross that bridge when we get to it. Then educate her as to safe surfing and searching.

For the time being, this works for me.

OK Guys, thanks very much, I've downloaded net nanny to try for 15 days and also the K9 one to compare. I haven't got Norton and the virus/firewall I use (Bitdefender) doesn't seem to offer much in this respect.

Knew some of you would have the solution.

Cheers.../Rob

K9

Installed K9 and it does exactly what I wanted it to do, thanks for the link. The only minor gripe is that you can't set different access profiles for each user but that's a function which is planned in later releases. I like the 'bark' option, so you can hear a woof woof when the kids click on something they shouldn't have. Great software. Recommended..

Thanks again guys../Rob
