Solar Eclipse.

A friend of mine on Burra in Shetland just took this.

Nice shot .

I was late, rushed out with my camera and stuck a welding mask over the lens. With a bit of experimentation I got these:

Not great, but it is a record. It was surprisingly light during the partial eclipse considering how much of the sun was obscured.

There was patchy cloud moving quite fast so not ideal viewing conditions.

(camera is a Nikon D200 with an 18-200 DX/VR lens set at 1/60th sec at F20).

So that's that for another 20 years or so.

Was you "Overwhelmed" by the solar eclipse?

Did you go to the Faroes to witness the "Breathtaking" solar eclipse or did you just charter an aircraft to guarantee a sighting.

Was you "Plunged" into twilight for two hours as the most spectacular eclipse of the sun for 15 years took place?

I must be a grumpy old git because it makes me cringe the way they go on and on about it. Will I get a refund on the lose of power generated by my solar panels? Will there be a catastrophe when all the solar panels stop generating at the same time?

We have another (nearly) Solar eclipse coming on Wednesday with the peak being at 7. I saw that on the news the other day and thought, wow, I'll be able to see that, except when they said 7, they didn't mention it was 7pm. I live in a steeply sided valley so I never get a sunset, so I'm not going to see it unless I take a wander over the hill, not that I have any of those aids you need to stop burning your eyes out, so I might just see what it does to the other side of the valley from home.

Pitched up in a vineyard on the shores and saw it all
Amazing spectacular event …especially as it was full sun and 32c

I find myself with a few days off so I am heading for The Lizard tomorrow to watch the eclipse and to catch up with some friends who live there. Booked a pub in Gweek for three nights, going to travel in air conditioned comfort in the car rather than the bike, don't fancy being stuck in traffic in 34C clad in bike gear.
