Last week I looked at a leaflet for SAM and noticed they meet up just down the road on a Sunday and do assessed rides and help with the IAM test.

Any members frequent this forum?

What can I expect?

I would like to see how good (or otherwise) my road riding skills are and make improvements, maybe even get good enough to be able to give something back to biking myself one day. Would joining the SAM and doing my IAM training be a good place to start, or is there a better way?

Hi Adam,

Yes there are quite a few SAM members who frequent this site. I will be there on Sunday and look forward to meeting you.
On Sunday you will be taken out for a short ride with an observer who will give you some feed back and explain what is involved with observed rides and the test.

No it is not the only way to improve you skills and awareness, but it worked for me and you have nothing to loose by coming along and having a look see.

I am a member of SAM and currently working up towards my test. I am meeting up with my observer for a ride out this saturday at Loomies. I must come clean and say that I have never been to one of the 'events' that are run (mainly because I live in Basingstoke and work in Southampton and don't really want to trawl back down there at the weekend too)!

Millard (from this forum) is an Observer for SAM and often comes out on greenlaning trips with us.

I went alomg to one of SAM's obseved rides last summer, and took my test later in the year.
They are a fairly friendly bunch and it is well worth using the free observed ride to see if you think it will be worth it - I certainly learnt a lot.

Thanks guys, I can't make this weekend as my Cousin is down visiting from Northampton so lots of for the bank holiday weekend, but I'll pop along the following Sunday and check it out.

Roger, do you ride a new red 12GSA and teach riding locally by any chance?
