Solved my height problem on my '07 Adv

Went to Dealer and mounted a stock GS seat in place of the stock Adventure seat and *BAM* :eek: perfect!!!! Now I can comfortably touch the ground with both feet.
It's black so it matches nicely.
"Oh"...and by sitting lower,the wind coming over the screen (raised fully) now hits the forehead area of the helmet lowering the wind noise, and I stand at 6'.

Happy once again in my little world!!! :D :augie :D

Now if I'd git me lazy arse out there and take some photos.....

Hopefully tomorrow sunday I'll bring the camera...........

Here's a picture of the front wheel,notice no ABS ring cuz I have the standard brakes,No ABS or servo's. Brakes are superb!!!!

The new centerstand reconfiguration works great!!!
Basically just step on it and the bike *pops* rightup!!
 
What is it that's clamped onto the frame near the rear shock in the first pic :nenau

All BMWs destined to have a charcoal cannister fitted - but it is only required for Califiornia so can be removed in other states. I took mine off - very simple job, just requires some simple re-routing of gas tank vent and plugging vacum take off from throttle body.

From model year 2006, the centre stand was altered. Can be identified by the strut across between the two "legs" being straight instead of curved. Really did make a difference. :thumb2

Now, no-one can keep a bike that clean......surely:D

Nice job with the seat though. I`m 6 ft and my ADV is slightly too tall and only a problem when loaded. I`m going down the Wilburs Shocks route which drop it by about an inch by all accounts. Should also make the handling a little better.

Bikes still new about 7 days old,just bugs and such,give it time.

The Adv seat is definately thicker by at least ½" or more,so before spending "tons of money" try the factory GS seat and add the beads for comfort.

Beaded seats "baby"!!!.....10 million "cabbies" can't be wrong!!!
I'd been down that route of after market seats and found with the beads any "BMW brick "I mean seat" is now comfortable!
 
I`ll try the standard seat but I`ll stick with my airhawk if you don`t mind....:thumb

I can just imagine the abuse at the next West Mids meeting...:eek:

I am only 6' as well and with short legs for my height (so I am told!) my inseam is 31". This means that I am on tip tip tip toes with the bike......despite this I choose the high setiing of the seat. If I put it on the low setting I can get all 10 toes on the floor but I feel like a chimp riding a tricycle. Or is it just me?

Seriously though, I have only had it a couple of months and I am VERY careful when stopping etc. When loaded with camping gear and all I make sure that I park (or leaning a little to the right) it on flat ground or else when I get on I struggle to lift it off the side stand!.........But hey........what's the worse that can happen?

it's not just you. i have 30" inside leg & prefer the high seat position too, but i get the balls of both feet down with standard sargent seat.

when loaded i go for the low position & get both feet nearly flat. more secure at low speeds.

i never realised how much trouble some people have getting these bikes off the side stand until recently when i witnessed a friend trying to do it. i've never had any trouble doing it, it's a knack, no brute force involved.

he was putting huge effort into yanking on the bars & it just didn't work. light pull of the bars with a twitch of the hips to push the seat & it comes up for me no trouble.

it was funny watching him though :P
 
On Round the Bend, Alan (Fazer Thou') had occasion to move the GSA after fuelling up and it nearly gave him a hernia. Then he watched me give it a wee dint with the hips to get it upright and push it easily.

Technique is everything

The "Chimp feeling is gone"!!!
The standard seat allows a bit more of your feet to touch giving you all the confidence in the world!
