A sparkys work does not simply consist of connecting 2 ends of a cable in the right terminals
You make it sound like any tom dick or Harry could carry out electrical work.
A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I agree entirely, however some aspects of domestic electrical installations are quite simple, and hence are approved as diy tasks. Im simply gathering information to plan a project, then I'll decide who I need to do what. I'm not trying to be offensive to any trade .
Btw the £150 quote wasnt the cheapest and he conceeded 2hrs was his expectation, guy who completed the work was around 2.5 hours and he was local so no travelling time issues.

In my 25+ years of experience I have found more often than not that yes 'it is that complicated' . I wouldn't waste my breath on trying to explain to you how wrong you are, but you sound such a stupid cnut anyway there would be no point trying.

Clearly I need to explain in rather simple terms,
Part P is merely entry into the club, you can be far higher skilled as an electrical engineer, but still legally unable to install domestic wiring, without part p, 4 years apprenticeship to do domestic wiring, You serious, you can take an easy course, then pass part P, then install wiring as a business, if your apprenticeship was so good, why did you have to pass part P? domestic wiring is complicated you say, I call that bollocks, it's simple and you know fine well it is,

But seeing as you bring the death and prison card up, how many people were up before the court for wiring without being part P registered and how many of those we're sent to prison, since part P was introduced,

Of course if you were not an arse you could have just recommended that a qualified electrician did the work, but no arse is as arse does!

In the many many installations I have done, I have never had to do rework on them to pass part P, if I did more I would pass part P, just not worth it for me, my apprenticeship was a waste as well,

Industrial design and maintenance, that is much more challenging!

I know I said that was my last word but, ianboydsnr, I never mentioned part p or prison, think you should have quoted someone else in your last post not me. In my first post I did recommend that you get a sparky in to do it, yea I'm still an arse, but at least I know it.
Yes I'm in a union but that's got fuck all to do with my attitude to these posts. I have a genuine concern for people's safety, more likely because of the industry I work in, that is why I say what I say.

Now, I ain't gonna waste any more time on this, I've got a gas boiler to fit, then I'm going to fix some planes at the airport. After that if I've got time, I'm going to fix some sick people in the hospital.

Electrician

I use Alan he's a qualified electrician retired he doesn't have part P he has done electrics all his working life clean tidy knowledgable
He cheap as well
In fact he's probably a better electrician than most
But the new rules don't allow him to work in my house bollacks

As for gas
a company who were corgi now gas fu,,,,, safe registered fitted my dad a gas fire
Both mum and dad had carbon monoxide poisoning fitted wrong
So who do you go to its a cruel world


Funny this thread poor Pablo1 only asked for a bit of advice then every body wanted to hang him lighten up just give the advice and have a drink

Using a qualified electrician doesn't guarantee you good results.

I've just discovered that part of our house is wired with three phases and no earth. One room has three sockets, one for each phase, all three pin sockets, none of the earth pins are connected for the simple reason that the (fully qualified) electrician who did the work failed to bring an earth in with the three phases.

I do most of the work myself because i don't trust the fully qualified electricians that are available.

Thanks for all the contributions, I've got all I need now between here and the pub, have discussed my plan with electrician I used to inspect my work previously on bigger jobs and he concurrs with me.( he is qualified as an inspector, whatever that means).
He's busy busy busy, when I asked him did he want the job, he said " you dont need me for that" .

Ive had a few laughs here too, thanks again.
