Some good WC footage

The reality is the 12GS is a big arsed tourer that is surprisingly capable offroad, and BMW have shown it being used as such. Sure, it's gets near the limit of travel - I'm curious as to which of BMWs competitors, KTM aside, would not do similar. Which of the other manufacturers even include showing their bike jumping?

It seemed to handle this jump pretty well:

And pulling this kind of stunt on that kind of terrain takes a pretty well sorted bike:

To me, it's really not the most obvious part of the video - to me, the most obvious thing is the bike looks pretty damn capable. And that you really get the impression that there are a number of real enthusiasts who worked on the bike.

No point in trying to get back to the point with you really is there.

I made a serious point, you want to talk crap.

Never mind.

tata :beerjug:
No, you just did your usual childishness and needlessly threw insults.

If you want to discuss like an adult feel free. I'm more than up for it.
If you want to behave like a petulant 13 year old, you can DIY.

My point was, ALL bikes will bottom out in similar situations, including those designed purely for the rough, as shown. Those KTMs were only dropping a couple of feet.

Yes some bikes may cope better than the new GS, but not those with such a road bias. It doesn't show the GS in a bad light, it just shows it has limits.

Feck me! The bikes not even on sale yet! What's it gonna be like on here when it is?

Nice clever ad, skillfully omitted the F/D designer from it :D

I do hope this ones the dogs, I may even buy one!

Well the marketing vid has worked. I want one if only I could afford one but I can't so I'll have to stick with my archaic barge of an 1150 GSA.

That is a great shot :clap

Did you bottom out on the landing? :P

Ha ha, no, the bike was fine - it was constantly bottoming out on a trip to Spain last year - steptoe struggled to get the bash plate off to change the oil cos the screws were all fucked!!

Grounding Out

What impressed me about the vid is how the rebound was instantly controlled after the bike recoiled from 'landing', very impressive control from the dynamic skyhook electronic thingies.

This is good marketing if your a glass half full rider. It is clear what it indicates to a half empty viewer!

Bring it on BMW. Lurvely sound as well.

Grounding Out and Mr Fanum's Observations

Seems the video is bang-on accurate thay say "the camera never lies"

Suspension travel Front 190mm Rear 200mm

Ground clearance 195mm

Its all in the design Fanum take your head out of your arse! you don't have to be controversial to be respected on here.

I'll have a guess at the ground clearance of the current GSA based on its suspension travel of 210/220mm Is it around 210/215mm ? Anybody know the actual?

Quoted from the BM Media Info Pack........

At 190 and 200 millimetres, the spring travel at front and rear remains identical to the predecessor model.

The new R 1200 GS also meets the need for greater off-road suitability by offering increased ground clearance. This is now 195 millimetres - 8 millimetres more than before.

Here's the next installment - including some more good offroad footage

Gets the juices following the bike looks great, can't believe the slope he got it up but had it moved any further to the left and he wouldn't have.

When is part 3 out?

It was indeed an impressive climb - I wonder if that was with all aids turned off, or if the traction is smart enough to deal with that kind of challenge...

Enduro mode pro = everything turned off.

Another great video, roll on part 3.:beerjug: I can't wait until March.:JB The more I see the red, the more I wonder if I should have gone for that instead of thunder grey, but guess I can change the panels later if I get bored.

I wasn't trying to be controversial :blast

It just struck me that for a fairly small jump, it seems to have bottomed out a bit quickly.

My thoughts went to hitting some rolling bumps, at speed, two up and fully laden.

Why is my head up my arse? Because I'm not a BMW sycophant and pointed something out that you don't like?

Must admit to warming to the WC - will certainly look to test ride one later in the year when the initial fuss has died down.

Great vids - thanks for posting :thumb

Criticism is fine, if it's constructive or valid. Pretty sure we can agree it wasn't constructive. So in terms of being valid, why don't you point out all the bikes that would handle such a jump so much better?

You think that everyone is being a sycophant... but it strikes me that you are being critical for the sake of it. (I looked, but couldn't find a good antonym for sycophant :blast )
