I am here on the easter weekend , so I can come out to play. Let me know when and where.
Probably best keeping an eye on (or subscribing to) this thread. Whatever gets sorted out - I'll post up here :)

OK, the plan is firming up and for me looks like this....

Clive has 4-5 hours worth of route/s, Reading-Newbury-Reading and we are likely to kick off with that on Friday morning.

Then I fancy the byways to the South and West of Salisbury for Saturday and maybe those around Chitterne if time permits. (Anyone familiar with these?)

With the Sunday focus on the Plain itself. (All local knowledge welcome).

Monday to head home and turn your gear around.

If you fancy joining for any or all then please speak up and let's trade contact detail to tighten up start times and meeting points.

Thanks

Eddy

The plan for Friday 14th April...

Eddy802 and myself will be riding some trails to the South of Reading and heading West towards Newbury before heading North towards the Ridgeway area around East Ilsley, but without actually using the Ridgeway, finally ending up to the West of Reading around Upper Basildon.

As a direct route it is about 80 miles with some road work (as little as I can make it) and a few fords (in the early stages) and I guess it'll take around 4-5 hours at my usual bimbling pace :)

It's intended as a Pogostick outing, however, I've ridden all the trails before (apart from the final 1/3 mile of the Devil's Highway - deep ruts) on a GS - some of the trails can get a bit muddy in places, so TKC80s recommended.

I'd like to make an early start - say 9.30am from my house (not far from J11 of the M4). Probably have a fuel stop at Chieveley services (M4/J13) and a pub/lunch stop at Upton although it might be best to bring some snacks or a packed lunch - also don't forget your water supply - I've booked a nice hot, sunny day ;)

Could those who are interested in tagging along add to the list below and I'll PM you my address etc.

The map hasn't come out clearly. Any chance you could email it to me?

The routes have too many waypoints so are getting chopped when uploading to GPS - will cut them into smaller chunks and post better images soon(ish).

P.S did you see the email I sent to your "hotmail" account?

Cheers Clive, that's perfect.

As it stands I would pretty much like to tag along on the Plain itself. I am in Bristol so anyone from around 'ere want to meet up to ride out post in this topic. TKc on the way so should have about a week to scrape them in :thumb

Simon and I managed to get out for a recce today. Started at 2pm - didn't arrive at Upton til around 6pm
Depending on numbers a bit of "on the day pruning" may be in order ;)

Clive,

count me in for Friday's fun.

cant make the other days unfortunately.

cheers

We've done quite a few days on the "plain" . Wouldn't mind doing another one now it's not so wet.

:mmmm
I got out for trail ride around the plain last weekend. In hindsight i should have taken a jetski and left the bike at home!

Water everywhere, puddles you could loose a tank in, and keep off us some of the training tracks. but all good fun anyhow!! :clap :clap

I had heard a rumour (sp?) that extensive fencing was being erected to keep trail riders out, but didn't see any on the parts of the plain that we visited.

Now i feel the need to get myself another po-go.....
