I've recently updated my 220 to a 390LM and it's being a real ball-ache. The 390 is recognised by Garmin Express and I can update maps / change settings etc. But when I go into Basecamp it lists my device as GARMIN (GARMIN). If I double-click on that label, it shows it as a removable media device / SD card etc. I've tried resetting the user data on the 390, I've re-installed the maps and I've changed the MTP settings from auto to MTP. Nothing has made any difference. At the top right of the screen in BC there's a tab saying updates which shows the software on the Garmin device as needing upgrading from version 0.00 to 3.90. This option takes about a minute and then halts. However, the 390 shows its own software to be version 3.90.

I've tried this on my iMac and my Macbook air and they're exactly the same. IIRC the device was recognised while I drew a route on BC - which I managed to save - but I think something in the device is corrupted. There is a Garmin bulletin somewhere about deleting the .xml file in the device and allowing it to create a new one but nothing changed.

Aaargh!

As posted elsewhere on here. All down to a duff usb connection. Garmin Express would recognise the device and update maps etc. but Basecamp must use different pin(s) on the usb. Had this fault with two genuine Garmin leads as well!!

Interesting! Was it a duff USB connection or a duff USB lead? How did you pin the problem down?
