Hello folks. My pal and me are off to Nurburgring later this year. The original plan was to GS it to germany in one hit but now plans have changed . Its sportsbikes in the back of a very large slow van. Suggestions for somewhere to stop en route would be greatly appreciated from the more experienced travellers . the plan is to leave west midlands sunday am and stop somewhere over the water en route , ideally with good food/booze facilities . I've got some riding routes from Mr Wapping for when we arrive!

Thanks for the replies gents. Looking to head out Sunday, got alll day so no rush. Hotel de la poste looks great, is there parking for a big van do you think?

Both have good parking for a van and are located alongside a river with plenty of bars etc

take it you are using the tunnel ? from there it is a 5 hour drive using the E40 towards Brussels, We did this with a van and three bikes in the rear. not sure what day you are going, but if you travel on a Sunday ,the motorways are very quiet ,due to no HGVs ...have a great time
Calais, which I assume you are passing through, is 460 km (285 miles) from the ‘ring. The most direct route is motorwa:
I guess you would aim for somewhere, roughly half way along that line? That of course might vary on what time you roll into France.
Plucked at random is the Ibis Leuven Heverlee. Why?
a. It’s in about the right place.
b. It’s near the motorway.
c. A look in Google street view, shows that it has a big car park.
d. There’s a Burger King, close by.
e. The hotel would, I’m sure call you a taxi to go into Leuven, if you’d prefer a McDonald’s……. Or even something else.
However, it’s only five and a half hours from Calais to the ‘ring, I’d aim to catch an early‘ish ferry and do it in one go.

Thanks very much for that Richard, that's a good plan. We where originally going to head out early doors monday but decided to go sunday instead because getting to the tunnel in a van monday am could take forever plus the drive to the ring.

I’d keep it as simple as possible, not least as you’ll probably be on the motorways, most of the way. Sunday is a similarly good move, as there is much less traffic. Google is, this morning, predicting an 8.5 hour journey time (versus 5.5 hours) my betting is that there’s been some sort of hold up around Brussels, which does get very congested in rush hour, so it’s now suggesting a route that goes south of the city, via Mons.
Take a view nearer the time of your departure. Google will give you a pretty good guide. It also makes it easy to find hotels. Just zoom in on the map and ask it for hotels near location XYZ.
PS As to whether anywhere along the direct route is ‘nice’ is a moot point. Me? I’d not concentrate too much on the nice bit, but rather on getting to the ‘ring and fun.

If you’re taking a van and considering the suggestion made to stop at the Hotel de La Poste I’d suggest giving them a call asking the height of the entrance because I don’t remember it being particularly high.

Top advise mate, thanks very much. we'll drive to the ring and be ready for daftness monday am. Hopefully wont bring it back on a pallet
