Anyone got a Sonos they're selling?

Bought a first gen play 5 on here about 6 years ago and it's been great. But we've had a new fibre broadband system installed and it no longer seems to want to play. Even with the S1 app.

So think I probably need something newer.

Shame like as it was working perfectly.

Maybe if you have a new router with your new broadband the Sonos needs linking to it?

Yes it does but it's not playing ball.

I've tried everything that I can find online but no luck.

Have you tried unplugging, hold the reset button down while you plug back in, then release reset button?

Yes. Have tried everything short of a hammer.

It just doesn't seem to be supported by the app anymore.

I get so far then it just stops. Says there is a network error.

Does it need to connect to the 2.5 ghz band of your WiFi, although I’m sure you’ve tried that

I seem to remember reading something about different frequencies and Sonos and routers. When Sonos did that disastrous update to firmware a couple of years ago I understood they changed the preferred frequency for connecting to routers. If you dive into Sonos support articles or their forum you may find more.

Is this any help ?

Argh. He never said if he fixed it :ROFLMAO:

I'll get the missus to ring Sonos. I can't be arsed with it anymore.

Cheers.

Assuming the gen 1 has a network connection, have you tried a direct Ethernet connection to the router?

Are you using the original sonos app or the newish one? I’ve got gen 1 Play One’s and gen 2 play 5’s and both work fine on WiFi with the current app and I’ve also just upgraded to full fibre with a new router so you should be able to connect.

I’ve got 3 Play 1s and a Play 3 in a cupboard.

They just died when Sonos overtook me and my simple wi-if hub.

I looked up the current Sonos App, but it seems technology has left me behind.

I still have 2 x Play 1s in the kitchen. When the legendarily bad "new" Sonos app came out I nearly gave up on them, but the app has improved. It's still not great but I think it's more stable than the original now.

I would have replaced them after some of the grief I've had with them, but they still sound much better than their small size promises and I've never seen anything that is so easy to install without a connecting wire that would be a major headache to run.
I know such things do exist but there's always a drawback that means the Play 1s are still there. Must get a listen to the Wiim alternative some time.

Jeez, you could be describing my experience. The Sonos app still frequently still tells me “no system found” despite music coming from the speakers that I started either from Spotify, or by pressing the button on top of the speaker. I’m surprised the company didn’t go bust over the debacle of that firmware update/app release. I suspect it was an effort to get people with old hardware to upgrade to new stuff, which apparently was unaffected by the update.

Yes tried the ethernet cable etc.

We manage to get all the way through the process, then the app shows a network issue. We have tried connecting using the temp wifi network the speaker creates too.

I'll get SWMBO to call Sonos. If no dice after that it's skip time.

Cheers guys.

I am running Sonos S1 stuff with a mini sub. All good still. Hardwired to the play base, then Sonos wireless from there.
If you do bin yours please let me know - would be interested to add them to mine thanks

I’ve got a very old play 5 gen 1 and it works fine.

Have you tried connecting it directly with Ethernet? This sometimes recognises a speakers that got “lost” so it then works again on wifi

I've found as I use an iphone as my controller that every time I get an update my 2nd gen Sonos system stops working properly. ie having to continually shut down and restart everything router included but I have found I needed to look at my iphone settings. You could try looking for settings on the web.
