anyone experienced this?
ps3 shut down after about an hours use, after switching back on it shuts down, light turns yellow then flashes red.
google says its a common problem, plenty of sites offer advice but at a price
anyone know of a fix or where I can send it ?

cheers

You need to send it back to sony - who will send you a reconditioned ubit as a replacement ....

Follow one of the google links - a chum of mine fixed a PS3 recently using a hair dryer. The YLOD is caused by a solder joint on a circuit board failing. He aimed a hairdryer inside it for 15 minutes, which apparently resets the solder - all fine since. There is another method where it is stripped down and the offending board is baked in the oven and has the same effect. Search for YLOD....

Tried heating the board earlier today for about 5 mins with a heat gun but failed to fix , guess I was a little nervous about overheating. will try again later with more heat now I know how to get to the board

cheers

I got mine foxed for £60 when it happened, been going strong ever since but they "uprated" the fans which made it a bit noisier.

Heat gun on full for 5 mins, think your supposed to re apply thermal paste on the chip, I've not bothered, will do if it starts overheating
