Sooo many problems with WC 1200's

There may be a few extra nearly new bikes on the market as dealers sell the extra loaners they had to register to cover the RT recall. It is not a sign of people not liking them.

Interesting thread this. The way I see it is that BMW bikes are no better than any other brand nowadays. However, they do look after you while the bike is still in warranty so if you can afford a new one every 2 years, fill yer boots :thumby:. If you can't look elsewhere. Personally, I wont be buying one any time soon due to the reliability issues of ALL the 1200 WC range GS, RT, GSA
I have the ULTIMATE boxer, a 2012 one, last of the pre WC ones.

Not the last one mate

Just got a NEW R1200 GSA 90th Anniversary - collected 2 weeks ago

I currently ride an 800GS. With 21k miles and two winters under its wheels, it's been faultless. I'm really tempted by some of the advantages of the 1200 but there seems to be be far too many complaints about them. This is holding back my decision to buy.
Why are there so many relatively new ones for sale? Owners sick of things going wrong perhaps!

The biggest thing to put me off though was a BMW tech telling me to steer clear of them! BMW know more than they're letting on! Think I'll get another 800GS.

Love Katy.

I see you are back again - you must be bored.

The 800 series haven't exactly escaped the "dodgy" BWM curse, although you appear to have a good one,so hang onto it.
Your forum name KaTy M may be indicating where your preferences really lie....:D

What dodgy curse? Mines been ok one prob, my mate has 80000 miles on his still going strong, rotex engine is proven and we do use ours for purpose:D

Buy one Katy, it's a great bike.

One of the main reasons that there are a few for sale is that many owners love 'em that much that they are already on their 2nd LC. I'm on my 2014 bike after a year on a faultless 2013 bike and I've a couple of mates who get their second 2014 bikes in September.

Bmw are constantly upgrading the bike and some guys want the latest options, other guys have already done a few tours and have clocked up quite a few miles, and are ready for a fresh bike. If you are staying with the same model bike there is an optimum time to change it to lose the least amount of cash and this may be another reason.

2013 original model .......2014 with steering damper....... 2015 with keyless ignition and heavy crank.....2016 ????????? who knows

It's a great bike.

To be fair to KT M it's probably too big and powerful for a woman unless she is built like Brigitte Neilson.

Issues I have had are - tyre availability caused by Michellin but happily resolved by BMW, screen pin and petrol filler cap both replaced under warranty. Things that could be improved on my bike, gearbox is poor and heated grips temperature could be improved.

Well all I can add, is that my bike is like a 18 year old blonde nymphomaniac.

I love riding the tits off it ! !

MY14 GS............. No issues whatsoever.

My MY14 bike is far and away more exciting than any other gs ive ridden. Gearbox is slightly foobarred though on 2nd and 3rd gear upshifts at mega high revs, some nasty kick back/resistance through the lever and a graunch, pre-loading the lever seems to get round it, but why should ya have to. Anyone had any joy getting similar issues resolved?

The early 2013 demo bike i tried had the nastiest crunchiest gear-change of any bike ive ridden since i started riding in 1987, although a later test ride on a diff bike and the gearbox was fine.

4500 miles since march and other than above glitch bikes been fine. I do like it an awful lot, its great fun and generally sorted.

Some bikes have issues but that doesnt seem any different to any other manufacturer, particularly european ones.

Saint quentin bound in the morning!

Although I got rid of mine after 16mts I wouldn't say it was a poor bike, quite the opposite infact.

There where just 3 things that spoilt the whole experience for me.

1...The bloody awful gearchange.

2...The fuelling made it difficult to ride slowly without slipping the clutch all the time

3...The suspension was not all it was cracked up to be.

For some bizzare reason BMW wanted to put a new engine and gearbox in it.

In retrospect I think the biggest mistake I made was to pay for the bike when I bought it,it became mine rather than BMW's

But they say every cloud has a silver lineing and after 25yrs of BMW ownership I have moved on to pastures new and am enjoying my new steed with a passion.

Steve
