Sore Arsey on a GSA-Do Leopards Change Their Spots ? 🤔

We tried a GSA a few years ago when changing from a Honda ST1300, the overwhelming memory was just how bloody uncomfortable the seats were!
We bought an RT instead… and put Sargent seats on it.

Part 2

Back in Cape Town.
Met up with an old mate on another crew last night that I’d not seen for a decade .
Beers were drunk and small steaks consumed

IMG_4684.jpeg

Just opened the curtains to check the forecast

IMG_4685.jpeg

And confirmed

IMG_4687.jpeg
Nipping down for a light brek by the pool

IMG_4681.jpeg

Then off to meet Don for another rental .
After the dreadful seat on the 1250GSA I decided to go for something with more quality this time as mainly assembled by Loncin .

Only riding 100 miles up the coast to stay in a lovely fishing village .

Checked it out on our way in yesterday

IMG_4672.jpegFound out last night that they have a famous biker bar there called The Panty Bar so that’ll be first port of call tonight

Will post a few pics later .

Smells fishy to me.

The level of farmer fucking there will soon approach Zimbabwe levels. Hopefully Tesla boy can reverse otherwise another paradise turned into a shithole in less than a decade.
Rent a hog or Guzzi……….and a Glock 9mm!! lol

Steed for the trip . Brand new 900GSA, now assembled in Germany rather than China so let’s hope it’s reliable 😜

I do like the look of the 900GSA, but I’m a design tart. I’d like to know how that rides Arsey.

It’s the heaviest bike I’ve ever had to heave off the side stand .
But rides very well once on the move .
Screen and wing gubbins a bit crap.
Much smoother than 1250 and tips in better too .
Great motor .

Got a few days in Cape Town. Be rude not to rent a nice bike .
Unfortunately I couldn’t find one so settled on an obscure model called a 1250 GSA Tripple Blick. Should blend in with the locals at least .
Even fitted with the amazing Gear Shift Assist Prod !
Picked the bike up from Don at Adventure Bike Rentals

He provided me with a great route via Dolphin Bay to Bainskloof Pass then Du Toitskloof Pass.

About 200 mile round trip

First stop Dolphin Bay with Table Mountain in background.

Then back to Cape Town.

The GSA ?

First impressions-comfy seat , nice engine .

After 100 miles -seat fucking dreadful. Too squidgy making my arse very sore. Had to keep standing up to relive pain.
Suspension too firm in Dynamic Pro. Not much better in Road.
GSAP pretty crap compared to virtually every other bike I’ve ridden with a quick shifter.
Handled lovely though as all GS/GSAs do.

Would need a seat change and suspension sorting to do big miles on .

Great day out but would rather been on a better bike. Bit surprised ….

New Shark OXO was fabulous.

Think my unworn Neotec 3 might be surplus to requirements .
I've just bought an OXO too (and the Nolan version) to try out. Very impressed with the finish on both. How are you finding the noise level with yours when riding?

Pleasant day for a ride .
Picked up the bike from Don at Adventure Bike Rentals

Then made my way to Paternoster via the West Coast National Park

IMG_4727.jpeg

Very picturesque

Had lunch here

IMG_4710.jpeg

IMG_4707.jpegIMG_4709.jpeg

Then continued.
The last 10 miles was dirt road

Arriving in Paternoster

My room for the night . Not bad for £60 including brek

IMG_4726.jpegIMG_4725.jpeg

The bike ?

It’s ok .
Stand out feature is the motor . Very smooth and grunty. Prefer it to the 1250.
Great quick shifter . Much smoother than the Gear Shift Assist Prod on the 1250.

Nice compliant suspension in both Road and Dynamic .

Good riding position . A bit comfier than the dire seat on 1250GSA, though I did pack my seat pad . Apologies if that irks TIJ650’s vanity before sanity clause , but my nerve damage dictates I need to try get comfy .

The screen on the bike is pointless . Whether fully up or down it makes fuck all difference, as do the deflectors.

Standing on the pegs produced the same airflow as sat down .

The bike weighs a ton and has a high c of g . Heaviest bike I’ve ever had to heave off side stand.
Weight disappears when riding though and it tips in lovely , probably due to being top heavy .

A good , not great bike . Would have one over the 1250GSA, but looking forward to getting Voge DS900X away. Same engine , better seat and screen , plus fully loaded for half the price of 900 GSA if you try spec it up to similar levels .

Great photos. 👍.
One cannot beat a strategically placed wardrobe. It's a must for every discerning traveller. 😉👍

Superb side-trip with great weather (looks like a couple of kite surfers in the 'obligatory Table Top mountain shot'?

Pity that the National Parks Comms team chose THE most 'we're all at the beach and bored as f*ck' photo that could possibly be on a tourist brochure (includes hiding the picnic table out of the wind). It speaks of depression, more than excitement!

What keeps Paternoster going, then, if not even a paved road? (Retirees?).

It's great to see you bringing part of RSA to life with your getting out-and-about energy... But the poor buggers that have to live in a Paradise spoiled by politics is another story. Maybe Trump needs a real estate interest there, to sort it out...

Have a good flight home.

Where hot chicks throw their knickers at BMW riders 😜
