questions 1 - when turning left or right i can feel a slight vibration / grating sensation that goes on the bike being back in a straight line. doesnt seem to affect the bike at all and i sometimes wonder it im imagining it. is this a normal traight or poss wheel bearings?

question 2 - when setting up there is a very slight judder for a microsecond until i give it a little more revs. again is that normal or am just not using enough revs to pull off on the bike. still getting used to it as always had sports bikes

thanks again

How long have you had it and how much time have you spent riding it?

I'd say keep riding and see if you can get used to it by adjusting yourself to the bike. Give it a couple of weeks of riding everday and then report the faults again. If it doesn't stall in a microsecond or fall over in corners you should probably be okay till April.

BTW. Always start the bike with the fast idle and keep it on until there are two bars on the temp RID.

Check the condition of your rear tyre.
When I got mine, i got vibration mainly noticable on slow speed left and right leans, but once I did notice it I could feel it more at speed.
Turned out center of tyre had worn and the side chunks for want of a better word had not, so when leaning the side chunks potruded more than the center and were causing the vibration.
New rear tyre = problem gone.

Q2 could be the shaft biting, this being my first shaft drive, takes a bit of getting used to. The clutches aren't generally as smooth as jap stuff being dry that could be it to, Luckily i'd owned a dry clutch duke previously so was aware of the different characteristics. There is a slight clonk on mine if i reengage without enough revs, the duke used to make the same noise.
Lots of people will say these bikes make a right old noise and they do, I thought mine sounded rough as dogs with ticking and whatever but then you hear others and they all make the same noise. Mostly comes because of the engine layout. Best advice I was given.
Get some ear plugs and go enjoy.
and they weren't wrong.

Only owned mine since Sept buy already prefer it to the VFR previously. I find the power more useable and so comfy.
Enjoy.

1 I get a distinctive "buzzing" when cornering on part-worn tyres (Tourances), particularly noticeable on very smooth surfaces. Just another vote for what somebody already suggested, it goes away for a while when I fit new tyres.

2 The clutch can "bite" and judder a bit if there aren't enough revs to keep it slipping, and the twin isn't perfectly smooth if the clutch locks up at low revs. I tend to ignore it when it happens, seems preferable to excessive clutch slip (and consequent wear on the dry clutch) when setting off. It's all a bit different to wet clutches on multis...

Tourances.
Are terrible for vibration /wobbly low speed riding, when part worn

I agree - squared off Tourances are sh*t compare to other GS stylee tyres :-)

the replies are appreciated and make sense. the front tyre is worn and probably has around a 1000 miles left in it. the sensation is only very slight but can just feel it.

ill stick some new tyres on at mot time in june and see how i go.

im always the same when i get a new bike i always find things that dont feel right and just find it disconcerting till i get used to it.

the clutch i think is just the revs. gave a little more revs yesterday and adjusted the clutch span and felt better. a very slight judder but think thats a gearbox foible.

That's the reason I dislike them... it's happening on my 1150 now - part worn Tourances, cranked over in corners and getting vibration/rumbling. I thought it was FD going so checked that and it was fine, so it must be the tyres... don't know how they get away with it or why they are so popular tyres. I see elsewhere there was a recall for a certain batch also... not sure what to replace them with but they certainly won't be another set going on my bike.

Not just tourances that have this issue. Previous rear tyre did this but can't remember which make it was. Wasn't a tourances though.

I get that on my R1100R with Metzeler Roadtec Z6s, even though they're new(ish).

Does it go away when you hit the brakes?

This *could* be the rotor being slightly warped and "touching" the pad as the rotor goes around.

I have something similar on my K75, the rotor is ever so slightly warped and just brushes one of the brake pads, can feel weird at times.

Is it an 1100 or 1150? Clutch adjustment on 1100 is at back of gearbox on clutch actuation arm not at lever. Lever end will only adjust cable free play but not clearence on clutch.

the bike is an 1150. im thinking it was just me getting used to the bike as seems to getting better the more i use it.

Just ride the feckin thing:thumb

+1, but take 10 minutes to pull the front brake pads and spin the wheel, listen for any grumbling from the bearings. Put each pad back in the same location it was taken from.

Wot Vern said +2, ignore the strange noises 1100/1150 all do that, also try a different tyre e.g Michelin anarkee or Pilot road 3.
I can recommend the anarkees and i hear good stuff about the Pilot Road 3 might give them a go next time

+3 just ride, and get some earplugs.

+1 on the pilot road 3, cracking tyre that is! Got them on both of my bikes
