Its time to move on, my GS had loads of life left in it and I was still enjoying riding it even after 30 months and 37000 miles. Its been a great bike with only a heated grip failure and a loose ignition swithch causing any real problems. A medical problem means I now need to tour two up and the F800 is just a bit too small for that. Hopefully when things normalise my wife will be back on her F650GS and I may return.
Im collecting an 09 low mileage R1200GS on Saturday.
Thanks for the advice and friendliness from all you F riders.

Are you sure you want to move into the 1200 section. You know it's full of weirdos :D

You know it's full of weirdos
I spotted on subscriber who has 33000 posts.
It dose seem full of strange people and the posts do go on a bit, I have no doubt at the heart of the section there is information just as useful as here.

Your not leaving , just moving on :thumb

12 is a great bike, god call and enjoy :thumb2, I hope the problem gets better and all the best with all :beerjug:

Good luck with the new bike! Let us know how you get on with it! I may well be making the move to the dark side soon! :hide

Hope every thing works out for you. :thumb Many moons ago I bought an old bike of yours.

1000 miles on and I'm just about getting used to the 1200. The F800GS was like an old pair of comfy slippers, I felt completely as one with it. The 1200 is a bit heavier and is less forgiving if you let the revs drop but it has a very pleasing surge of power out of bends when you get it right.
The fuel is a bit of a worry, I can get 58 mpg on a good steady long run dropping to 52 if I start to push it a bit. The worst fuel is commuting in the cold, its about 42 mpg doing a 6 mile run to work.
The fuel gauge is worse than the F800 so I need to fuel at about 180 miles to be safe. Instrumentation is a generation behind the F800. No mpg readout, just an average. Daftest of all you can have a clock or temp etc not both. Im looking to buy a stick on clock to fix to a £12000 bike.
Its a fairly comfy seat but the pillion and rider footrest are about an inch too high. Kits to lower are available but cost about £250 for both sets.

The worst bit of all is the 1200gs forum. There is a definite in crowd who are rude, unhelpful and generally give the site a very unpleasant feel. I was warned, I'll not be going there again.

I almost forgot, I do like the GS1200, as the miles pass Im feeling more at home. I have no regrets about the change but will always have fond memories of the F800GS, the bike which took me trouble free touring further than any bike I have had previously.

Says it all. Probably sums up what other people think of BMW riders. Now, why are we called Tossers?
