Sound of crunching burntout valves

I've been getting severe valve chink almost like a burntout valve sound at 3000 and again a 5000rpm. Was begining to fear severe engine problems. After taking a bit more notice I relalised that my clutch was slipping between 3000 and 4000rpm, Then my clutch cable broke d'oh. After replacing cable and properly adjusting clutch, Valve chink totally gone.

Can anybody give a reason for this one?? Is it just another BMW quirk.

Nope......sounds like your maintenance schedule needs re-appraisal.;)
