Hi there chaps I just want to run this past you and see if anyone else has come accross this guy. I'm selling my Adventure and was phoned by someone called Freddy from the Netherlands who so say comes accross to the UK buying BMW bikes to sell back in Holland, he wants to bank transfer the ££ to my account and pick the bike up, does this sound dodgy to you guys?

I do know at least one Dutch dealer has been doing this for years, as he gets significantly more for them in the Netherlands than it costs to purchase here. I'm not saying it's the same chap, mind. Ask him if he regularly buys from the trade, & ask them if he's straight to deal with.

Hi, I flogged him my Pan European about a year ago, sent his guy who paid cash put it on a trailer and drove away, no problems.

I've heard something about a bank transfers that shows in your account then mysteriously disappears after you parted with the goods check with your bank first.

Sounds funny to me what's wrong with cash? If he offers more than the value and asks for you to pay the difference it deffo is a con. Why not subscribe here and list it and someone on here might buy it. JJH

Take a small deposit from him via PayPal, and tell him its cash on collection, then go to your bank on the day with the chap in the van, pay the cash in to your account, deal done.:thumb

A bank transfer is not a draft , once the money is in your account it cannot be taken out . I don't know this guy , but this is the normal way of paying for things in holland . If it was me I would have no problem giving him my bike once the funds had cleared into my account after a bank transfer ( not from a bank draft ). Cash on the other hand I would not accept for large amounts , much safer doing it via wire transfer .

The bank transfer should be fine but still worth checking with your bank that funds can't be taken back. Asking for cash is obviously more hassle for the buyer, especially if he is over buying a lot of bikes for shipping back as would mean they may have to carry literally hundreds of thousands in cash around with them.

Just make sure it is a bank transfer and he has not paid into your bank via a cheque or draft.

He could go to any branch of your bank and deposit a draft, it will show in your account as a deposit.

However the cheque / draft could get 'lost' in clearing and the issuing bank will not release the funds.

The money is then withdrawn from your account.
this has happened very recently to me but luckily I was dealing with a reputable company that issued a new draft

Be careful a bank transfer can be reclaimed. I have had dealing selling vehicles abroad and was told by some one I asked at the bank the safest way is to move the money into another account as soon as its in your bank.
rightly or wrongly !!!

If the money comes from a credit card account then his money can be transferred back to his account regardless . The only way to stop money coming out and back to him from your account is to give him your saving account no. because it works in the deferent manor then currant account ! Like the money can be taking out or transferred back only in your presents with your card chip and pin plus ID :thumb

I sold my HP2 Sport to a chap from Germany.
was a bit apprehensive/suspicious at first, but I did the deal, he transferred £11000 to my bank. Then collected my bike in his van two week later.

All good...:thumb

I had a similiar experience with a polish guy who got in touch from this site.
I was very apprehensive so met him at the local services, went to the bank and paid the money in and then went home for the docs.
Turned out he was a dealer and could source used bikes much cheaper in the UK.
I had thoughts of the cash being counterfeit so checked with the bank the day before. They said they would take the amount and check it was ok

Worked for me

I think that is the safety margin 2 weeks and no way could he take it out JJH

rather than rely on tittle tattle on here, ask your bank. do it in writing.

If the seller is genuine he will want to have it all in writing to protect his side of the deal. If you are really worried use an escrow service though they are costly. Again, ask your bank.

Had the same thing when I sold my ZX10R bloke offered me £800 less than I eventually sold it for.
