riding home yesterday my g/s cut out after a turn at some lights, pulled the clutch in and as the engine died there was a clicking noise, not unlike a clock being wound fast, only for a second or two. engine was hot as i had been riding through brighton on a hot day so i gave it 10 mins then tried to start, the engine span a lot faster on the starter than usual, but did start, no strange noises ( than usual ! ) but ran unevenly.
decided to go for tea and a fag for half an hour and on my return whipped the plugs out and span the motor,in turn a thumb over each plug hole, plenty of compression, oil level ok so i decided to risk the 2 miles home.
bike started and span normally on the starter but ran unevenly at low revs, cutting from one to two and sometimes cutting out, if i gave it a bit she seemed fine except on the overun where she went onto one.
anyway, would like some thoughts please, im going to attempt the 8 mile ride to my workshop on friday and have a think till then what could have ( or will!! ) happen, many thanks, steve

sounds like the coil shorting out under the tank (clicking noise) I would check along the ignition circuit, coil, leads, plug caps etc.

thanks kev , i ll certainly take a look, the clicking sounded much more mechanical than a relay tho.

not as yet, just waiting for a break in this bloody weather to get the bike to my workshop, if its not pissing down its a howling gale and down on the south coast i mean HOWLING, we had a gust of 90mph down at the marina the other day!! flaming june?? more like f*ckin june.
