South Pole Sponsorship

Brilliant, big bula bos 4 bonny Brendy; broth of a boy & brave 2 boot

Oh Feck!!!!!!!!!!
I'll keep my mouth shut next time!

Ok-I'll bite. I had kinda thought about suggesting this before as an organised run, and was stunned to see so many interested in the idea.

My idea would be the following:
I have a wee house in Malin Head, about 20 miles north of the North Pole.
My brother has a bigger house across the road from mine, but has no furniture, so we can meet up there on the Friday night, and indoor camp between the two houses. (Possibly a mini bus to the NP on the Friday night for a few pints???:nenau)

On Saturday, ride to the NP for the official start, with a few photos. The question then is, would we want to do the run in one or two days? I would favour 2, with the Saturday night perhaps in Co Clare, somewhere near the Shannon Ferry-Ennis/Kilkee or up towards Ballyvaughan. On the Sunday, off to the SP.

The MMMT is 26 to 28 March, so I am suggesting the weekend before--for selfish reasons--I dont get many weekends off being a paramedic (who else is gonna pick up the drunks on a Saturday night?!) and I have a weeks holiday to take before the end of March. Taking this one helps me get on Aidan's MMMT the weekend after and the Donegal postman has predicted a good Spring.:blagblah:blagblah

Stickers would be provided.

Right--let the abuse begin!!

Given the closeness to the MMMMT weekend Brendy, from a logistical and financial point of view would it not be better to have it a couple of weeks afterwards.

Middle of April maybe?

From my own selfish point of view, it would be a good shakedown for my bike before I ship her off to the US.

Fair play Brendy :thumb2 Sounds like a crackin' run :bounce1

However, I'm with Aidan on this one. Apart from the fact that, weather permitting he & I will be out for the final MMMMT recce that weekend, having two 2 night weekends back to back won't suit many peeps either from a brownie points or cost point of view :rob
Due to Aidan skiveing off to the States for 5 weeks we won't be organising a second 'national' event this year so, effectively, the entire rest of the year is available to you :thumb2 (with the exception of Richies Beara Run on 22/23 May !)

:mmmm

wot they said.
sorry - but between time and money, later in the year would suit a lot more a lot better.
not moaning / just being pragmatic - i love the idea.:) :thumb2

Riiiiiiiiiiiight

Looks like it'll have to be April, as there's too much on in May, namely the NW200 , the Horizons Unlimited Motorcycle Meet (HUMM),and the Beara run .The NW is 15th week, the HUMM (1st in Ireland) is 28 to 3oth, and Beara is 22-23rd.

As regards April, Easter is weekend of the 4th, and allowing a week for school holidays, I propose weekend of Friday 16th April. How does that suit y'all?

Next, I suggest a 2 day trip, with saturday night around Ballyvaughan and the Sunday night around the Soth Pole, with dispersal on Monday morning. Will allow for a few pints and deviations for Corkscrew Hill, Dusky the dolphin etc.

By the way, what is the Beara run? Is it open to all?

As regards foreigners on this trip, aint no such thing.....all welcome.:hug

Seems to suit fine :thumb2 I'll probably have to head home on Sunday night though as I'm away to the ROD in Devon the following Thursday :bounce1

'Tis a run around West Cork that Richie is organising here.
Everyone was made very welcome last year so I imagine it'll be the same again this year ;)

RR on last years run is here. A cracking weekend which I wouldn't miss :aidan

can another foreigner come.....:guitarist

Of course :thumb2

So long as it's not you :P
Seriously though, I'm sure the usual 'come all' policy will apply. Brendy ...??

Brendy, it might be worth starting a new thread just for the run (now that you've comprehensively hijacked Gerry's thread :D)

At the moment I'm in. Passed the South Pole Inn a few times while on holiday in Kerry last year. I must say I still prefer the whole "South Pole to North Pole in a Day" idea. Quite happy to go North to South but like the idea of one day.

i like the sound of this! can we then call ourselfes "global treckers"?:clap:clap

As I kinda already said.........all nationalities welcome:aidan

Aidan I have PM-ed you for a bit of organising advice. The enthusiasm for this thing has stunned me........I think there are loads of us suffering from cabin fever at the moment. Personally, I'd go on a run to a wallpaper shop if I could get out on me bike!!!
