Ive got a Yellow R1200 GS its not been right since the day I got it,(20 Jan This year) Its had a catalouge of failures sensors,Brain,Rear brake and rear wheel bearing housing(the whole rear wheel was loose)all had to be replaced on warrantyeven the chassis number is going rusty under the plastic! At one time it learned that each time it started it had to stop. Now at 5672 miles the clutch is slipping very badlyi.e in 3rd gear at 20mph if you wind on the throtle the revs go up and before you know it your on the rev limiter.I'm due to go on a BMW organised touring holiday in september if its anything like the bike it will be a :eek::eek::eek:in' disaster.I arn't confident enough to go on this machine, christ ive got a 1995 Yamaha FZR600R thats never given me any trouble at all, apart from adodgy connection on the alarm and that wasn't Yamaha's fault,Thats been ragged all over the place and its still on the same clutch and brain and rearbrake disc and bearings and there is jack shit wrong with it!
Southport super bikes have been exellent they really have bent over backwards especially Steve,Jim,Oz,Roy and Andy in the workshop
,But BMW have been totally arrogant usless tossers adopting the attitude"you have a warranty, what more do you want?"
I'll tell you what I want BMW a bike fit for its purpose and an attitude towards customers that befits your, apparently undeserved, good reputation.I dont want this machine any more i want an exchange for a new one i dont trust it and i would not recommend one to anybody or come to that any \bmw they are over priced piles of junk.My solicitor is now going to deal with it Im@m sick and fed up with BMW.

Fully agree with you about BMW!

Blue Bell Service Dept are very good too but the arrogance of BMW hardly encourages customer loyalty.

Wow, the words of an angry customer certainly strike fear in the hearts of BM owners. I hope mine continues to behave itself and I don't befall the same fate. Good luck with the solicititors mate, I hope they get you a new bike seeing as this one is 'unfit for purpose'. I think you will be covered under 'Anti-lemon laws', especially judging by the bikes colour. Maybe you should have bought a red one?;)

Oh Dear!!
No.
sorry lemon law does not work in the uk.I tried several times.
I bought a harley davidson v-rod brand new in 2003.After 22 miles it threw its coolant all over my leg.
After 150 miles it did it again.
After 2 years and 2750 miles it does it for fun now.It has had oil leaks, faulty electrics, faulty fuel flanges and noisy brakes.
I tried to punch the service manager, have tried to sue h/d and got nowhere.
All you can do is protest outside the dealership peacefully and tell people your story.
I have also tried to sell it and i have to take a £6000 shafting.
So as i told h/d shove your yanky S***E as far up as you can.

I hope for bmw's sake my 1200 gs behave's when it gets here in september or else i will get cross with them to!!
I am lucky i have a good dealership who appears to be switched on.Watch this space as i am allegedly a right miserable perfectionist(quote from h/d customer services).

Sorry to hear about your problems. By way of balance though, mine's a great bike, no major problems to date. Maybe I'm just lucky but I reckon there are lots of 'quietly' satisfied owners out there, too busy riding their bikes to read about the troubles of others posted here!

It's unfortunate but true: Unhappy customers will let everyone know of their misfortune while satisfied customers feel no need to inform others of their good fortune ;)

Satisfied owners

It is true that for every disgruntled owner there are probably hundreds or perhaps thousands of us who are delighted. I am on my eigth BMW now and somehow seem to have always been lucky and none of them behaved badly ! I think the dealer often has a lot to answer for - although not, as in this instance, always.
I remember writing in similar vein in the Club journal about 25 years ago saying that I treated my 'bike ( an R100RS at that time) much as I treated my car ( had it serviced properly etc.) and went all over the place including continental trips without a second thought. On reflection I think that constant daily use is an important factor, then as now. Brian

BMW/SOUTHPORT SUPERBIKES/SANGUINE

MAJOR SYMPATHIES to originator of thread, would like to add to date in my limited dealings with southport superbikes they have been excellent- incl putting on my engine bars when i was runnng out of time prior to trip this year to tt races- & re the mention of the sanguine! I bought my 1150gs off him feb2004 & to date I have had no real problems to speak of-note as i recall his problems were somewhat complex & not really about his/my 1150gs-& probably too lengthy for this forum! good luck!

Where's the bigot Bob when you need him, or has he gone into further denial with what a shyte bike the GS1200 really is???

Put your bike in a trade magazine and get rid of the wrong 'un!

I read a copy of TWO recently, the GS didnt seem to do too well there either. I can only deduce the boys arent/refused to go on the BMW payroll. Respect fellers!

December 2004? "The best BMW's got better. Don't risk a test ride unless you're prepared to part with your cash. Yup, it's that good."

Another friday afternoon bike? Sureley not! That takes the total up to errr has anybody got any more digits cos i've run out of fingers.

Errrr.....My bikes sorted now.Steve at SSB came to it and found what the problem was........... a bit embarrasing really the hand guard was just touching, honestly, barley touching actually...... only just in the vicinity, just a smige, the clutch lever and there ain't no freeplay on it so it slipped. It was OK riding to the shops but we can only assume that some one or something touched/knocked the guard and i didn't notice it.But with the problems i've had with the thing I could only fear the worst.Ilove the bike dearly it is so capable but its just like a naughty kid.You know what it can do but it just wont behave.I still stand by what i think of BMW customer service though.SSB ROCK.Im going away to be embarrased now.Oh by the way I make it round the off road skills course without breaking any thing on me but i did knacker three clutch levers one screen and an engine casing and i did finish the day in a tree!

... and here was me keeping my trap shut to save your embarrassment ... I personally wouldn't have 'fessed up... glad you did though ...

I didn't get home till 7pm so you owe me a cream egg...

If I'm gonna complain about stuff ive got to also accept when ive stuffed up swings and roundabouts innit see.Im sure there are still plenty more bits to go wrong!!!rolleyes:LOL.See you Saturday aft.Have a Rally 2 suit in newly skinny git size ready for me to try.:
