SP 111 Sunshade

I was out yesterday & due to the sun shining (believe it or not!) I was having difficulty in reading the screen of my SP111. Does the TT sunshade actually help? The reason I'm asking is that I tried shading the screen with my hand, and it didn't seem to make much difference.

I have the same problem - but Haven´t bought a shade as I cant say I am very convinced that they will work. anyone use a shade?

Charles, I made a temporary one from black card and stuck it on with tape. It was if anything a little deeper than the TT version, it did help a little but when the sun came out properly, I still couldn’t see the dammed screen.

Try re asking the question on the GPS page, see what you get.

I've got the Touratech one.
It certainly works insomuch as it makes the screen far more readable in sunlight.

However, it has become deformed, as a result of exposure to direct sunlight, and now has a distinctly 'corrugated' shape to it!

you'd think that something that is meant to protect from sunlight wouldn't be affected by it

Sounds like I'd better get my helmet rigged up with speakers so that I can rely on the voice prompts!

Personally I'd heartily endorse your suggestion, but I am an exposed GPS numpty and I will, given time be corrected again and reprimanded for giving misleading information

I'll further qualify my opinion in saying anyone who believes when driving and navigating in an urban situation that having to look at a screen on your handlebars is better than looking up and out for potential riding hazards is serioulsly deluded. Unless of course like Migsel and Den (there may be others) you have your GPS mounted on or near your eyeline.

Sunshade does the trick

On my last GPS Streetpilot I had the Touratech sunshade and it worked a treat. I am just about to order a new one for my SP111.

Not yet no
Maybe once they start making our Garmin toys a bit lighter and smaller.

I have it mounted like this:

This works fine, combined with the IMO. In direct sunlight however, it's not very readable either. I do rely on the voice guidance mostly then.

I am now working on a similar mount for a gps or whatever you can put on a RAM mount above the speedo, but without the IMO. As Judge mentioned, that is a far safer position than on the handlebars.

It will look a bit like this (but cleaner) without the IMO, so with the speedo visible:

The drawing is ready, I'll have the base plate machined in a week or two. Currently I am wondering how many I should order... So if anybody is interested, I'd appreciate if you let me know.

I actually bought a Schuberth S1 on Saturday I'm hoping that flipping up the sunvisor when I want to read the screen might make it more visible. Last week I was trying to view it through a combination of a Fog City HyperOptik visor & Ray Bans - not a good mix!
