Bought a 52Ltr Givi topbox of the board here and not all the bits and pieces came with it and I also didn't know this at the time.
Before this I fixed the mount on the rear rack and found I couldn't open the toolkit. The mount lies over the edge of the toolkit.
So I e-mailed Givi requesting some of the square washers that sit in the recesses of the mounting plate and some spacers to lift the mounting plate off the rear rack. (Are you with me so far?)

Givi sent me 3 pairs of spacers and I've tried them in various combinations but still can't open the tool box properly. I've taken a few photos to explain so does anyone here know how to fit the Givi Maxia topbox or can it be I've the wrong mounting plate?

Cheers for ANY assistance.

Hi Steve,

You say you "still can't open the tool box properly." you mean you can't open the top box, right? What would this have to do with the mountings? What exactly is your problem?

Did you get instructions for setting it up? If not I have a set I could photocopy and send.

My givi box requires "persuasion" to open. I have to press down the lid and apply pressure to the back as I press the handle to ping it open. I think I can fix this by filing down the lip on the lock mechanism but so far I have lacked the round tuit.

Steve,

Its a while since but IIRC the tool box was always a bit difficult to open with the top box rack in place on my 1150. However, looking at your first picture of the rack, if you rotated the washers with elongated holes by 90 degrees, you should be able to slide the rack back a bit.

HTH.

A light squirt if WD40 over the opening mechanism under the flap will make it a doddle to open. Mine became difficult to open after too many rainstorms / washing sessions, now it's better than when it was new.

Steve - thread hijack - sorry, I can't help with the mounting rack problem, however, does this help?

Just gone out & looked at my GS. You appear to be missing the mounting plate UNDER the plate that the top box plate fits onto.

It's the toolbox kit under the rear seat I'm having trouble getting to when the topbox is on the bike. The opening lever/mechanism lies directly under the topbox. I'd really appreciate a copy of the instructions. If you PM me I'll send you my address details.

Cheers

Don't think I can rotate the square washers due to where the holes down into the rear light mount are.

Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

What mounting plate?

I was only given the box and the big black plate. Obviously some of the parts were missing. i.e. the square washers AND the spacers although GIVI have been great in sending me replacements FOC. I can't ask for a plate now so I guess I'll have to find a local Givi dealer and order one.

You don't happen to have a photo of the said plate do you?

Thanks again to all

Bit Missing

You seem to be missing a very important part. You should have a mild steel plate which has holes drilled and sits on top of the turned washers that have been provided. The plate has tapped holes to suit the plastic top plate, they are positioned to allow the tool box lid to be removed. I could not see it on the Givi site but I can provide part no if required.

if you fit the incorrect spacers, they interfere with the brake servo system

:D  :D

I'd appreciate the part number. I don't suppose you have the back rest part number too?

retaining plate

I borrowed a mates givi box and retaining plate, and recieved the same "lacking in parts"

Heres what I did

I popped into a local factory that appeared to have thin metal lying around and a nice chap to cut me a piece FOC approx 7"x1".
Then I went to a nut and bolt place and bought for a few quid:

2 x shorter bolts ones for rear light housing retaining bolts; these then tightened flush with the parcel rack.

Drilled a couple of holes in the metal strip for the two nut & bolts below.
2 x short nyloc nut and bolts to clamp the rack to the rear parcel shelf.

This meant I could move the mounting plate free of the toolbox lid.

It was really solid and worked a treat for approx £2.00

Give plate

Steve

I've got a spare plate you can have, but it weighs in at 0.884 Kg so to post it would be too expensive.

It's spare because I had an alternative one made out of aircraft grade aluminium with the same strength but alot lighter.

Let me know if you would like it as I'll be in Bristol this weekend, and perhaps we could meet somewhere.

Send me a PM
